Jim Bailey is Managing Editor at WJHL and anchors News Channel 11 at 6pm and News Channel 11 Nightside weekdays alongside Sara Diamond.
Having begun a career in broadcasting in 1970, Jim has worked in both radio and television news, including two years as a European based reporter and anchor for the American Services Radio and Television Network.
He has since served as a reporter, anchor and news manager for stations in Richmond, Virginia; New Orleans; Portland, Maine; Lexington, Kentucky and Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Additionally, Jim has worked in radio and television in Colorado Springs, Colorado; Tampa Florida, and his home state of South Carolina. He is a graduate of the University of South Carolina, and says that moving to the Tri-Cities is coming home.
In 1975, Jim was presented with the American Spirit of Honor Medal. He has also won awards from numerous organizations including the Associated Press, the Press Club of New Orleans, American Women in Radio and Television, the Broadcasters Association of Louisiana, Maine and Kentucky, and the Department of Defense.
Jim, his wife of 25 years, Jackie, and 19-year-old son Jay, moved to The Tri-Cities in September of 2001.
He and Jackie have their work in common, as Jackie produces News Channel 11 newscasts at 5 & 5:30 pm. Jay is now a student at Florida State University.
"My favorite pastime is spending time with my family," says Jim. "I'm an avid football fan, and when I'm not tossing the ball with Jay, we enjoy taking in pro football and baseball games. Jackie is the basketball fan."
Jim also loves water and snow skiing, despite having broken a leg on the slopes, and is an occasional duffer on the golf course.
Jim serves on the advisory board of the Salvation Army in Johnson City, and is a Deacon at First Christian Church of Johnson City.
