The Bristol Herald Courier is Jim Cnockaert's seventh stop in a journalism career that has spanned parts of four decades.
Cnockaert (pronounced knock-art) joined the Herald Courier in August 2008 after stops as sports editor for the Bozeman (Mont.) Daily Chronicle and King County (Wash.) Journal.
Before that, he worked for the Ann Arbor News for 18 years, including 12 covering the University of Michigan football team. He served as a voter for 11 years in the Associated Press Top 25 poll, and he voted for numerous postseason awards, including the Heisman Trophy and the Lou Groza and Rotary Lombardi awards. He has written two books on the history of University of Michigan football.
Cnockaert has won numerous national and state writing awards and was a member of an Ann Arbor News team that earned a national Associated Press Sports Editors' enterprise reporting award for a series of stories on the impact of the NCAA's changing academic requirements. He recently was honored as the top sports columnist among small newspapers in the Pacific Northwest.
A native of Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich., Cnockaert earned journalism and American history degrees from Detroit's Wayne State University. He is married to fellow journalist Christine Uthoff and is the father of three daughters.
