Mac McLean joined the Herald Courier in August 2007 and covers Sullivan County, Tennesse, with a particular focus on the county's central region surrounding the communities of Blountville and Bluff City. He is also the Herald Courier's health reporter and responsible for following news coming from the many health care companies and practitioners in the Tri-Cities area.

McLean comes to the Herald Courier from the Danville Register & Bee, a newspaper in Southside Virginia where he covered local government, state politics, and business. During this time he received two Virginia Press Association awards in 2007 for his coverage of Danville's city government and the 86-day-long Goodyear strike.

He lives with his girlfriend in Bristol, Va., where they spend their free time talking politics, going on hikes, taking pictures and enjoying making the mountains their home.
