David McGee is a staff writer for the Bristol Herald Courier and a senior member of the newsroom staff. He joined the daily newspaper in 2001 after 14 years as the editor and general manager of the former Sullivan County News weekly newspaper, based in Blountville, Tennessee.
McGee has won journalism awards from both the Virginia and Tennessee press associations and currently covers Bristol Virginia city government, schools, politics and business.

During that time, he also served as member of the photo staff of what is now Bristol Motor Speedway.
In his spare time, McGee serves as the public address announcer for the speedway's major NASCAR events, announces special events at Bristol Dragway, has authored or co-authored two books on Bristol racing and researches auto racing history.
