Rob Williams arrived at WJHL-TV August 2001 as the newest addition to "Newschannel 11 Morning Edition". Rob received his degree in Meteorology from the University of Oklahoma in 1992, but his love for the weather started much earlier. He recalls making the decision to become a meteorologist when he was in the 7th grade. Rob say's "As far back as I can remember, I recall the excitement I experienced during a thunderstorm. I would always stay up late at night and watch the radar on TV until the storms passed plus I saw my first tornado when I was only eight years old." That experience was definitely a sign of things to come.
Rob's television career started with an exciting internship in 'tornado alley'. He worked as a storm chaser for KFOR-TV in Oklahoma City often chasing tornadoes via helicopter. He later moved down the road to Wichita Falls, TX where he worked as the Weekend Meteorologist for KFDX-TV.
Growing up near San Antonio, Texas, Rob didn't see his first snowflake until he was twelve years old, so it makes sense that one of the television stations that he worked with was located in Northern Michigan where the average snowfall exceeded 100 inches annually. Rob braved 4 winter seasons in Michigan as Chief Meteorologist for WPNB/WTOM-TV in Traverse City and as the Weekend Meteorologist for WDIV-TV in Detroit.
Rob spends much of his free time enjoying the great outdoors. His hobbies range from downhill skiing and kayaking to indoor rock climbing or just playing Frisbee with his Border Collie "Summer".
