Former Clintwood High School star Justin Hamilton’s stint with the Washington Redskins turned out to be very brief.

The defensive back was released by the club on Thursday, less than a month after he joined the National Football League team. Hamilton signed as a free agent with Washington on May 31, but his services were no longer needed after the Redskins agreed to terms with seventh-round draft pick Chris Horton, a safety from UCLA.

Hamilton had missed the entire 2007 season, while nursing injuries. He made his professional debut with the Cleveland Browns in 2006 and appeared in 10 games and was in on 15 tackles.

It’s uncertain whether another team will give Hamilton a chance. Another option for the Southwest Virginia native would be the Canadian Football League.

Hamilton wasn’t the only local player let go by Washington this week. On Friday, former Dobyns-Bennett High School and Wake Forest University standout Patrick Ghee was let go by the team.
