Elizabethton native and current Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten has been busy over the past couple days.
Saturday he held his annual football camp, on Sunday he was inducted into the Cyclones Hall of Fame and Tuesday he reached another goal when he got his diploma during an informal graduation ceremony at the Thronton Student Life Center on the U-T campus.

Six years ago Elizabethton native Jason Witten announced he would forgo his senior season and head into the NFL, that forced him to put his education on the back burner and follow his childhood dream instead.

Witten re-entered the school through the renewing academic commitment program in 2005 and will complete his bachelor’s degree in sports management later this month, he admits that without the ecouragement of family and friends this day might not have come

Witten, who was a consensus All-SEC choice and Academic All-SEC selection for the 2002 Vols, says his motivation in returning to school has everything to do with his own children and those who look up to him.
