SW Virginia Native Billy Wagner Thinking of Retirement

The loss in the playoffs by the Boston Red Sox could have signaled the end to the major league baseball career of Southwest Virginia native Billy Wagner.

    Wagner threw 2/3rds of an inning in Boston’s game three loss to the Los Angeles Angels. 
    After the game, Wagner was asked about his plans for retirement.  he responded with “why wouldn’t i, i have nothing left to accomplish.“
  Actually that’s not true—- he’s just 15 saves short of 400 for his career and there are just four other relief pitchers that have reached that milestone.   
  The Ferrum product, who has pitched for 15 seasons in the major leagues, returned this season to pitch 17 games after tommy john ligament replacement surgery in 2008.
