DANVILLE, Va. — In his third start of the season, right-hander Steven Upchurch turned in a brilliant pitching performance for the Bristol White Sox.
Upchurch tossed seven strong innings to lead the BriSox to a 4-1 Appalachian League victory over the Danville Braves on Wednesday night at Dan Daniel Park.

Upchurch (2-1, 1.38 ERA) allowed an unearned run in his seven inning stint, while scattering four hits and striking out five. The Alabama native has allowed just one earned run and 10 hits in his last 18
innings of work.

Brent DeFoor worked the final two innings for his fourth save.

Bristol (31-27) took two of three from Danville and kept its slim playoff hopes alive. The Sox overcame three errors en route to the win, two from shortstop Juan Silverio.

John Kateon crushed his second home run of the season in the victory, while leadoff hitter Hancer Vargas tallied two hits.

Bristol begins a three-game series at Bluefield tonight.
