Onarkys Paniagua worked six strong innings, Jordan Kendall connected for two hits and the Bristol White Sox took advantage of four errors en route to a 3-1 victory over the Kingsport Mets on Tuesday night at DeVault Stadium.
Paniagua (1-0, 4.09 ERA) allowed just one run on five hits in six innings of work. The right-hander from the Dominican Republic did not issue a walk and struck out seven.
Michael Lucas followed with two shutout innings of relief, while Kevin Asselin pitched a perfect ninth inning for his second save.
None of Bristol’s six hits went for extra bases, but the Sox (4-3) were helped out by the fact Kingsport made four errors. Three of the miscues were made by teenage shortstop Wilmer Flores of the K-Mets, a prized prospect.
Bristol will try to win the three-game series against Kingsport tonight at 7 p.m. at DeVault Stadium. The game will be sponsored by Premier 1 Realty and one lucky fan will win $400 in gas as part of a free give-away.
