BREAKING NEWS: John Battle Wins State Team And Double Title, Captures Triple Crown

RADFORD, Va. — John Battle won the Virginia High School League state triple crown in girls tennis Saturday, as the Trojans added the Group A team and doubles titles to Emerald Lauzon’s singles championship that was won Thursday.
Fittingly, Lauzon was on the 100-plus degree courts at Radford University for yesterday’s titles. She and Carly Johnson finished off a tough 5-3 win over George Mason for the team title before drilling Jennifer Sing and Carrie Webber of Franklin 6-1, 6-2 for the doubles crown.
About the only thing Lauzon, one of the Trojans’ four seniors, didn’t win was first to touch the championship trophy.
“I couldn’t wait,” a grinning Johnson, who snuck around her teammate to grasp the trophy. “It’s just so exciting.”
