Prep roundup: Phillips racks up yards, TDs in South win

Sullivan South’s football team started fast for a change and has moved into the Class 4A quarterfinals.

Quarterback Curt Phillips scored six touchdowns and the Rebels’ defense stymied Morristown West in the first half of a 41-21 second round win Friday night in Kingsport.

Phillips scored on runs of 71, 6, 1, 1, 43 and 3 yards for South (11-1), which will host Greeneville next week in a rematch of a September game the Greene Devils won 24-21.

Phillips, who rushed for 163 yards, also threw for 221 yards for the Rebels, which rolled out to a 28-0 second quarter lead and never looked back.

Knox Farragut dominated the stats and put visiting Dobyns-Bennett out of the Class 5A playoffs.

The Admirals (10-2) rushed for 353 yards, with senior Andre Sterling scoring a pair of second half touchdowns on runs of 29 and 23 yards.

Chris Sensabaugh had the Indians’ only TD on a 4-yard run in the second quarter. D-B (8-4) committed five turnovers, including four interceptions, and had just 152 total yards.
