COEBURN, Va. – Twin Springs took a big step in defending its Cumberland District tournament title. Kris Jordan threw a two-hit, complete game shutout to lead the Titans to a 4-0 win over Castlewood at Alumni Stadium.

“My team was working for me,” Jordan said. “Everything Castlewood put in play, they were there. I didn’t feel any pressure, because they were there to back me up.”

Jordan struck out nine and only walked one as he picked up his sixth win.

Third baseman Ethan Taylor had both of Castlewood’s hits. The Blue Devils only seriously threatened once. Taylor led off the fifth inning with a triple. But Jordan retired the next three batters.

The bottom of the Titans order provided the offense in the second inning. With two outs, Logan Adams singled. Heath Culbertson followed with a run scoring double. Adam Gillenwater then drove in Culbertson with a single up the middle.

There wasn’t any suspense in the nightcap, as top seed Coeburn rolled. Andrew Pate pitched a complete game, striking out 12 in the game shortened to five innings. Pate is undefeated this year.

The first six batters reached base in the first inning, as the Blue Knights (12-5) scored seven runs. The big blast was a two-run homer by Jon Dean.

Pate was also big with the bat, going 2-for-2 with three RBIs.
