Barker Continues Family Tradition As Falcons Post Region IV Win
Abingdon junior shortstop Josh Barker deftly fielded a grounder and fired the ball to second base to start a double play. Moments later, Barker ignited a six-run rally with a home run.
It was a familiar sight to longtime sports fans in the Abingdon area.

Kirk Guides Gate City To Clinch Mountain District Win Over John Battle
Luke Kirk grew up hearing baseball stories.
The drama-filled tales centered around his great-grandfather Lefty Flick, and his grandfather, Don Flick. Lefty reached the Major League level with the Philadelphia Athletics. Don, a collegiate star at Tusculum, still plays with adult league teams around the region.

Abingdon baseball coach Mark Francisco looked at his young team and smiled late Thursday night. The Falcon boss had reason to be happy.
After Thursday’s 13-3 victory over John Battle, the Falcons have won 10 straight games since opening the season with a one-run loss to Virginia High.
