VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: East Claims Conference Championship

BLUFF CITY, Tenn. — The Sullivan East success story continued on Thursday night.
Behind nine kills from Tiffany Baines, East posted a 25-16, 25-16, 25-14 victory over Elizabethton and clinched the Three Rivers Conference regular-season volleyball title.
Kelsey Moyher added four aces for the Patriots (16-16, 7-0), while Blair Fields recorded 22 digs. Former King College standout Julia Rafalowski is in her first season as East’s head coach.
Coeburn 3, Castlewood 2
Lindsay Lawson had 16 kills, 11 digs and 10 service points as Coeburn rallied for a 22-25, 17-25, 25-14, 25-11, 15-10 decision.
Hannah Light (11 kills, 10 service points), Kala Morgan (10 kills) and Lauren McCoy (29 assists, 14 service points) were the other leaders for Coeburn.
Ali Ring paced Castlewood with 17 kills, while Kristen Johnson added 23 assists.
Tennessee High 3, Volunteer 1
Emma Fadial had 40 assists, six digs and five kills as Tennessee High posted a 25-20, 25-19, 25-27, 25-22 Big Eight Conference victory.
Ashly Fadial (11 kills, nine digs, two aces), Kaitlyn Fabbri (nine kills, five digs), Jenny Matheson (13 kills, seven blocks, five digs) and Carson Widener (21 digs) also played well for the Vikings.
THS is 5-7 in conference play.
Appalachia 3, Pound 0
Taryn Mullins had 18 service points, 10 assists and nine aces as Appalachia cruised to a 25-16, 25-10, 25-16 victory over Pound.
Katie Brooks added 14 kills and 10 service points for Appalachia (7-6, 1-3), while Chelsea Boyd served five aces and Chelsea Hylton doled out 13 assists.
Pound (3-11, 0-4) received four kills and three blocks from Shea Willis. Laura Carter (seven digs) and Cassie Stallard (four service points) also played well for the Wildcats.
Northwood 3, George Wythe 1
Nin Snodgrass had another strong performance, finishing with 12 digs, 12 blocks and six kills in Northwood’s 25-17, 12-25, 25-14, 25-18 victory over George Wythe.
Tori Blevins and Kristin Dean led Northwood at the net, finishing with nine kills apiece. Dean also had 11 digs, while Blevins added 12 assists and 14 digs.
Carla Suthers dished out 27 assists for GW, while Carly Vaught (11 kills) and Jenna Gregory (14 digs, six kills) were strong in defeat.
Powell Valley 3, J.J. Kelly 1
Tasha Trent and Kaylla Holdway controlled the net with 24 and 13 kills, respectively, in Powell Valleys’ 21-25, 25-22, 26-24, 25-16 Lonesome Pine District road win.
Cassie Sturgill contributed 34 assists for Powell Valley. Haley Wyatt had 16 digs for Kelly, while Ashley Mullins (13 kills) and Andrea Hopkins (seven kills) played well in the loss.
Carroll County 3, Abingdon 0
Sarah Singleton had 17 service points and six kills, helping Carroll County stay atop the Southwest District with a 25-18, 25-12, 25-10 victory over Abingdon.
Maleah Neely added 18 asists and 13 service points for Carroll County (11-1, 5-0), while Dianna Reece slammed down 13 kills.
Central 3, Daniel Boone 0
The trio of Kara Mann (13 kills), Brianna Cox (eight kills) and Jacklyn Kestner (eight kills) led Sullivan Central to a 25-16, 25-14, 25-22 win.
Lauren Blevins added 33 assists for Central, while Kenzie Darnell finished with six digs.
Honaker 3, Haysi 0
Emily Musick collected 13 kills and Nicole Roman added 15 assists as Honaker collected a 25-20, 25-21, 25-18 decision.
Rachel Artrip contributed seven kills and 14 service points for Honaker, now 4-10.
Haysi (4-7, 1-2) was led by Brittany Roark with eight assists.
Providence 1, Christ School 0
Jake Yeager’s goal 20 minutes into the second half sent Providence Academy of Johnson City to a victory over North Carolina’s Christ School.
Providence (14-1-1) avenged an earlier 3-1 loss to its opponents from North Carolina. Goalkeeper David Dunn posted the shutout.
Castlewood wins CD
Castlewood High School once again staked its claim to the Cumberland District golf title, taking the team crown at the district tourney earlier this week.
Justin Smith earned medalist honors for the Blue Devils with a 79, while Jordan Lovelace (80), Derek Allen (81) and Grant Marshall (82) also had nice rounds for the Blue Devils.
Castlewood won the team title by more than 50 points over runner-up Coeburn.
Castlewood joined Gate City (Clinch Mountain District), Haysi (Black Diamond District) and Powell Valley (Lonesome Pine District) as team champions in Region D.
