PREP ROUNDUP: Bramlett’s Homer Lifts Holston Past Northwood in Hogoheegee Baseball

Jeffrey Bramlett walloped a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning Tuesday, lifting Holston past Northwood 4-3 in the first round of the Hogoheegee District baseball tournament.
Bramlett (6-5) also got the win for the Cavaliers (8-12), fanning eight en route to an eight-hitter. Zach Delp allowed just five hits and whiffed nine for the Panthers.
Cory Norris had three hits, including two doubles, for Northwood.

Patrick Henry 6, Rural Retreat 1
Freshman Will Copenhaver struck out eight in tossing a complete-game six-hitter and also drove in two runs as Patrick Henry powered its way to a win over Rural Retreat in the first round of the
Hogoheegee District tournament.
Drew Counts scored a run and also had a RBI for PH, which took control with a four-run second inning. Will Whalen drove in Rural Retreat’s lone run.
Third-seeded PH advances to Thursday’s semifinals at Chilhowie to face No. 2 George Wythe.

Tazewell 6, Graham 5
A six-run outburst in the bottom of the fourth inning allowed homestanding Tazewell to stave off Graham’s upset bid in the Southwest District quarterfinals.
Catcher Bruiser Moore led the Bulldogs (13-7), going 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Trevor Sargent picked up the win for Tazewell with relief help from Jason Canning.
David Marrs collected three hits for the G-Men (5-16).

Carroll County 10, Marion 0
Andrew Webb tossed a six-hit shutout as Carroll County cruised to a home win over Marion in the SWD quarterfinals.
Brent Hall had two hits, including a homer, for the Cavaliers (12-9). Tyler Reavis added three hits and drove in two runs as Carroll County sealed a semifinal matchup with unbeaten Richlands.
The game was called in the sixth inning due to the 10-run rule.
Abingdon 14, Grundy 0
Justin Malone went 4-for-4 with two doubles and also picked up the win as Abingdon easily routed visiting Grundy in the SWD quarterfinals.
Zack Witt added two hits and three RBIs for the Falcons (15-6), while Malone (3-1) and Nathan Hagy teamed up on a one-hitter in the five-inning game.
Abingdon meets Tazewell in the SWD semifinals Thursday at Southwest Virginia Community College.

Caleb Manusco drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh inning, allowing the winning run to score as Science Hill posted a win in the TSSAA state tournament.
Nathaniel Patterson had two hits for the Hilltoppers.

SOFTBALL
Castlewood 5, Thomas Walker 4
The Blue Devils withstood a three-run fifth inning from the Pioneers to gain a close win in the Cumberland District tournament.
Morgan Trent allowed five hits and four runs in a winning decision for Castlewood, while Shana Hall went 2-for-3.
The Blue Devils won despite committing four errors.

Shasta Edwards scattered six hits in a complete game shutout as Rye Cove eliminated visiting St. Paul from the Cumberland District quarterfinals.
Shelli McDavid and Kayla Gibson each had two of the Eagles’ seven hits. Rye Cove scored twice in the first and third innings to give Edwards cushion.
Lindsey Dickenson led the Deacons with three hits.

Carroll County 10, Marion 5
Rebecca Thomas went 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs to lead Carroll County past visiting Marion in the SWD quarterfinals.
Kendra Galyean added two hits and a run for the Cavaliers (8-12), while Leanna Rippey contributed a hit, two runs and two RBIs. Thomas picked up a complete game win in the circle.
Carroll County visits top-seeded Richlands Thursday night in the semifinals.
Tazewell 12, Graham 0
Natalie Parsons worked a two-hit, 17-strikeout gem against visiting Graham, helping Tazewell win its SWD quarterfinal.
Katelyn Mitchell led the Bulldogs’ 12-hit onslaught with two doubles, a triple and five RBIs. Sydnei Lester added two hits and two RBIs, while Tiffany Harris belted a solo homer.
Tazewell meets No. 2 Abingdon in Thursday’s first semifinal at Williams Field in Richlands.
