ESSENTIAL GRADUTION INFORMATION

The new gymnasium at Northwood High School will host the 2008 graduation ceremony, scheduled for 7 p.m. June 5. The Baccalaureate service is scheduled for June 1, at 7 p.m. at Madam Russell United Methodist Church in Saltville, Va.

Brittnie Carter Holmes, the senior class president, will speak at graduation.

High School (Activities during high school years, sports, academics, etc.):  I have been a member of the FCA, BETA, Science, FBLA, Foreign Language, SCA clubs and the Science SWAC team.  I participated in Basketball, Track, Volleyball and Cross County.  I was named Volleyball “Defensive Player of the year in 2007 and All District Volleyball Player in 2007.  I was named the Smyth County Female Athlete of the Week.

Honors:  Senior Class Valedictorian, Gene Pappy Thompson Nominee, Will graduate having completed 28 college credits, an Advanced Studies Diploma, the Governor’s Seal for Academic Excellence, and be recognized as an Early College Scholar.  Received the school’s Academic Excellence Award for the past 3 years.

Scholarships/Honors:  Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship
Outstanding Student of America Award, A. Linwood Holton Governor’s School Certificate of Honor in Anatomy and Physiology

Future Plans:  I plan on attending ETSU where I will major in Family and Consumer sciences with a concentration in Nutrition.  I will graduate with a BS degree as a Registered Dietitian.

Parent’s Name:  Janice Olinger

High School (Activities during high school years, sports, academics, etc.):  I participated in Cross-Country and Track.  Also in the BETA, Science, SCA, Foreign Language, FBLA, FCCLA, FFA, Panther Pride, Drama, Forensics, FCA Clubs.  I worked on the yearbook and prom committee and was a member of the science SWAC team.  I also managed the wrestling team.
Honors:  3-year recipient of the academic award, highest average junior year, Early College Scholar, Advanced Studies Diploma with the governor’s seal, Participant in governor’s school.  I will graduate with 22 college credits, 4.1 GPA and Salutatorian

Scholarships/Honors:  Shenandoah Academic Scholarship

Future Plans:  Degree in Pharmacy, eventually open my own pharmacy

-Kimberly Brooke Boardwine

Parent’s Name: Jeannie Roberts and Michael Boardwine

High School (Activities during high school years, sports, academics, etc.):  Played basketball all 4 years, volleyball 3 years, track 3 years, and cross-country 1 year.  I’m a member of the FBLA, FFA, Foreign Language, BETA, FCCLA, Panther Pride, Science, and FCA clubs.  I have taken most of the honors classes and have never made below a B average throughout all my school years.

Scholarships/Honors: Honors:  3-year Academic award, Advanced Studies diploma, Governors Seal, Best Defensive player of the year in 2007, and the BETA club.

Future Plans:  I plan to become a Pediatric Physical Therapist.  After graduating from college, I plan to find a job in South Carolina and move there.  Then, after having a steady job, I hope to get married and shortly after, start a family.
