Writers Grieving Over Hit-And-Run Of Pet Dog
We have been residents of Bristol all our lives and never thought we would feel the way we do now: Bristol is no longer a good place to live thanks to inconsiderate jerks like the one we encountered on 13th Street on Aug. 15.
A man came flying down the hill and hit and killed our dog. He didn’t stop to apologize and he was traveling so fast that three people who saw what happened could not get a tag number.
So if you are the inconsiderate jerk, know this: The dog you killed belonged to a boy who has been blind since he was 11 months old. Would you have stopped if you had hit a child? We fear not.
So with people like that, living here it is not a good place to live.
Some people would say it was just a dog. But it wasn’t; it was like a family member.

At the same time, he may have been a trained seeing eye dog. I think we should be more concerned with the reckless driver who did not even hit the brakes after killing this poor animal than the leash law.
I’m sorry that a family pet has died but I’ll remind everyone that there is a leash law. Leash laws aren’t just to protect people from a pet, but to protect the pet from being harmed. The pet would have been fine if the owners simply followed city ordinance.
The links provided will provide proof of active leash laws in both Bristol TN and VA. Simply type “leash law” in the search window.
