Writer Urges Support For Prayer By Students

» 2 Comments | Post a Comment

On Constitution Day Sept. 17, a report was released by NET News Service about the prayer offered by a Gate City High School student and the subsequent protest by the ACLU.
The Fellowship of Christian Athletes led a pre-game prayer to remember the 9/11 terrorist victims as well as the Sullivan South football player who tragically died during an earlier football game. The complaint of one “offended” individual sparked the attack by the ACLU.
For decades now, the ACLU and their minions have bullied the majority and in essence have tried to back us into a corner. They have attacked everything we hold precious from the posting of the Ten Commandments to prayer in schools.
As a result, morality has declined as obviously evidenced by daily news reports of murder, rape, theft, indecency, etc.
The First Amendment to the Constitution affirms our right to religious liberty. The knee-jerk reaction of the ACLU to deliver threats to our schools demonstrates how out of touch the ACLU really is with our community and with the First Amendment. It’s completely astonishing, absurd, and pathetic.
Thankfully and by God’s grace, there is now an organization which upholds our Constitution and freedom of religion.
The Alliance Defense Fund (http://www.telladf.org) is reclaiming what we’ve lost and stops at nothing to ensure our First Liberty (religious freedom) is preserved.
I urge the Scott County School superintendent (as well as your readers) to contact the ADF for more information on preserving our values and constitutional rights.
Our students deserve the right to speak freely and fearlessly.

Jamie Burleson Harber,

Excellent letter and i am glad it was posted. Also to commonsense, great point but it is to bad the mainstream media never picked up on the hypocrisy by the mentioned school system.

I saw the You Tube videos of young children singing the Obama praises to the tunes of ‘Jesus Loves ... and The Battle Hymn…- but, where was the ACLU on that one?

Very dispicable, indeed, remininscent of Chavez’s education programs but it obviously doesn’t cut both ways for the ACLU, now does it…
