Writer supports Dulcie Mumpower
As transpires in nearly every election, whether it be local, state or federal, things are told that are either misconstrued or simply just not true altogether. Such seems to be the case in Dulcie Mumpower’s re-election bid this year in the Wilson District in Washington County for the Board of Supervisor’s race.
It seems that her opponent and his workers are telling people that Mrs. Mumpower and the other supervisors are turning down good potential jobs or running them out of the county. That is simply not true. The example that is being mentioned is that they, and Mrs. Mumpower in particular, kept an ethanol-producing plant from being located here. Not true.
I am familiar with the project and had occasion to view the plans for this in its early stages. The ethanol that would be produced would come from garbage. While I commend these folks for being progressive and think it is a good idea, the location that they wanted was not a good one for the neighbors involved. Oak Park Center for Business and Industry is located near an upscale subdivision and already houses several other businesses and industries within its boundaries. Traffic has been and still is an issue with the road going into the park.
Any time you mix large trucks and cars on a busy two-lane road, you are inviting trouble. As I said earlier, the plant in question would involve transporting huge amounts of garbage into it to make it economically feasible. The company intended to do this via rail and truck. Most of the garbage would be shipped in from other localities as well as possibly some local waste. Oak Park is simply not the place for this.
What Mrs. Mumpower’s opponent and his backers fail to mention is that the county did make other sites available for their consideration. The company would not consider them, even though they had rail and the other necessary services available to them.
Should Mrs. Mumpower and the other supervisors be criticized for protecting the citizens and existing industries in this community? I think not.
I served on the board with Mrs. Mumpower for 12 years. She has always done everything possible to bring new jobs to Washington county and has been successful at it. I would encourage people to think about what they are told during this election process and to choose wisely. Talk is cheap. It’s easy to tell part of the story for your own benefit sometimes, but you need to, as Paul Harvey always said, “hear the rest of the story.”

Most people don’t know they burn coal to make Ethanol. Imagine the whole area covered with soot from those boilers.
I guess we know why Mr. Ingle did not win his election against P. Price. He tries to sell to us that Dulcie and co. did everything they could to get the Ethanol plant and even offered other sites. First, what were these other sites and were they even feasible for this type of business?
This writer talks about what a good job Mrs Mumpower has done to bring business in but fails to mention anything she has done. I believe this speaks for itself because she hasn’t done anything to bring business in.
Mrs. Mumpower has done enough damage in the county and it is time for a change. We have to stop looking for reasons to keep business out of the county and start looking for ways to make it work. Voting for Mr. Smith seems like the only logical choice, I hope the residents in this district do not pass up a chance to make a positive change in the county.
I REPEAT…..
There are alot of nice people in this world, but nice is one thing and their voting record is another.
Where does the info come from?
PUBLIC RECORD FREE for all to view .....voting record and also the meeting minutes.
$20000 pay increase for county admin (thats one high paying job they got for washinton county.)
for min wage jobs but send 40k jobs to BRISTOL TN by not getting more info and voting on it.
and yes shes on the BRISTOL VA UTILITIES BOARD , now they have sure made the citizens of Washington County decide…..
Do I pay for FOOD and MORTGAGE
Or pay The outrageous ELECTRICITY BILL this month.
YES.. talk is cheap but the truth is expensive…. high taxes, high electric bills..low paying jobs except for one county official who got a $20k raise . His raise was more than most people earn at the new shopping center.
I dont know much about this Smith guy thats running against her, but i did receive a card today from his campaign that states he will give his $40k projected salary back to the county and challenges MUMPOWER to do the same.
I think its time to clean house and give him a try. At least the next big raise for the county admin would be paid for.
Nobody believed you when you ran in the last election and lost. They is why Paul Price beat you.
