Writer backs Mumpower for supervisor
It is with great pleasure that I write this letter to let the public know that I have served with Mrs. Dulcie Mumpower for eight years on the Washington County Social Services Board. Mrs. Mumpower served as chairwoman for six of the eight years and led the social services board with strength, courage, commitment and perseverance.
Mrs. Mumpower has been a lifelong resident of Washington County, Va., and has strived to be the heartbeat for the citizens. She has proven to be an effective leader and has shown herself to have a strong moral certainty involving her actions while serving in office.
I have had the opportunity to monitor Mrs. Mumpower during the time she has served as both a social services board member and as a member of the Washington County Board of Supervisors, representing the Wilson magisterial district. Her actions and her service on these boards has been proven through her voting record to show that Mrs. Mumpower has been a strong advocate of lowering the tax rates for property owners, she has been very active in soliciting commercial and industrial business to the county and she has led the way in developing negotiations for our large retail development known as “The Highlands Shopping Center” located at Exit 7 in Washington County.
It would be hard to name the numerous accomplishments that Mrs. Mumpower has achieved in her tenure as a public servant. Mrs. Mumpower and the Board of Supervisors have assisted in securing bonds to finance the new Johnston Memorial Hospital. She has also been instrumental in the demolition and removal of the Robert E. Lee Motel on U.S. Route 11, as well as numerous other achievements.
But as a citizen and a colleague, I would like to say first and foremost that I am proud to have served with Mrs. Mumpower on the social services board and to have known her because of her compassion, perseverance, high morals and the love that she has shown for Washington County and the citizens who live here.

sometimes it’s better to stick with what you have than to step into the unknown.
I beleive that Dulcie Mumpower was a unknown when she ran the first time back in the last centry.
In this case the unknown is better? If you don’t know the unknown then why don’t you get to know that person. You have no idea what Dulcie has done to some of the citzens.
I have no idea what you are talking about “Do you know who seconded the nomination”. What is your point?
joe dirt, sometimes it’s better to stick with what you have than to step into the unknown. Do you know who seconded the nomination for the man running against Mrs. Mumpower. You should look into that and consider the “what if” factor.
I wonder if this person thinks she will get a 20,000 dollar pay raise for writing this letter. She knows the Board has a say so for her salary. Do I hear conflict of interest here.
Nice letter Mrs. Mumpower. Where do these people get their information? I have never seen them at a Board of Supervisors meeting. It is the same on stuff. Some people are worried that if she doesn’t get elected that they will lose their job.
Come on people wake up. Mrs. Mumpower has done nothing. It is time for a change.
