Straten outlines goals, qualifications for office

I find it interesting that Mr. Singleton would write a letter supporting Jack McCrady for reelection and then spend the bulk of the text denigrating me and my qualifications for the office.  So, let me set the record straight. I have not held political office nor have I been a member of a political committee or a political board.
However, during my 45 years in the military aircraft and engine business, I have repeatedly sat on boards and ad hoc committees to address engine failures and aircraft incidences or accidents. To be a member of these committees or boards takes a great deal of training in investigative and analytical techniques. As one gains experience in those techniques you become more adept at questioning how and why things happen and what can be done to prevent them in the future. Had these same techniques been applied to Mr. Cox’s refuse reclamation plant, those who are, or were, concerned about it would realize that it is a certified “green industry” and is needed and welcomed in most communities.
Leadership is a quality that is honed over years from being in positions of leadership and performing.  I have done those things, first as a Master Chief Petty Officer in the Navy, and later as a product support manager and then a program manager at General Electric aircraft engine business. Having been responsible for the control and disbursing of many thousands of dollars of GE funds, I understand and know how to handle fiduciary responsibilities. I retired in Washington County because I love country life and it’s beautiful here. I have no intention of paving the county with businesses. I care for the health and well being of all the people I will represent.
