Reader Rebuts Letter, Suggests Writer Make Changes

I am curious why Phillip K. Cooper’s letter to the editor did not carry with it his normal signature as “Reverend.”  Having regularly read many of Rev. Cooper’s articles, placed in the Clinch Valley Times and the Lebanon News, no mention was made of his clerical title as he lambasted President Obama’s call for “change,” and lamented the “change” in the Cooper financial future. I find it incredulous that our new president could be single-handedly blamed for Cooper’s predicament.

My predicament has not changed. Grocery prices are up, but that is no change from my pre-Obama life. Grow a garden, buy a milk cow, raise a hog. Gas used to be less than a dollar a gallon, but under every pre-Obama administration the cost has continued to soar. Walk or purchase a horse.

I am not gullible, Rev. Cooper, far from it. My vote in last November’s election was for Obama. The “change” you call the “gullibility” of all Obama voters was long in coming, and will take time to come to fruition. Should you find yourself in lack before things grow better, you are welcome to sit at my table and share soup beans, corn bread, sun-ripened tomatoes, green onions, iced tea and a homemade cherry cobbler for dessert.

Meanwhile, I will exhort you, as you have so often done the citizens of Southwest Virginia. I Timothy 2:1- “I exhort therefore, that first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions and giving of thanks be made for all men; for kings and those in authority [Obama]. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior; who will have all men to be saved, and to come to the knowledge of the truth.”

I Timothy is a nice verse, but I am more partial to Prophets.

Prophets 5:7-11:“Hear me now therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of my mouth.  Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house:  Lest thou give thine honour unto others, and thy years unto the cruel:  Lest strangers be filled with thy wealth; and thy labours [be] in the house of a stranger”
and more importantly,
Pro. 5:15: “Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well”

The Bible warns us about those who would take our wealth and give it to others, and there is nothing wrong with calling Obama a socialist, nor you gullible.
