People Who Prep Food Should Wear Gloves
I am writing this letter concerning restaurant food. I have been in some fast food restaurants to eat and have noticed that the employees who prepare the food do not wear gloves. I think that it should be a law that all restaurants should have employees who prepare food to wear gloves.
There are so many germs and diseases that are spread through non-cleanliness. When a person orders food, they don’t know if an employee has spit in the food or not. There have been cases where employees were caught on tape spitting on food (pizza). There are other cases where hair has been found in food. No one knows what goes on in restaurants. All customers know is that the food, plates, glasses, cups and silverware are supposed to be clean.
Hair nets (under caps, usually worn by some employees) and gloves should be made mandatory.
When a family goes out to eat they shouldn’t have to worry if the food is clean or not. Health inspectors should reprimand or fine these restaurants for not following clean protocol. Restaurant managers and personnel please make sure your employees wear hair nets and gloves!

Bravo TnAndy…I could not agree with you more. I think it is funny that I have an acquaintance that REFUSES to eat at other peoples house UNLESS they are so clean you can eat off their floor yet she and her husband will eat out at different restaurants regularly, especially new ones….and they have NO idea who the person is making the food in the kitchen or what the kitchen looks like.
Speaking of the mention of “Health Inspections”. I worked in a restaurant in Washington County on and off for several years. They “health Inspection” was a laugh….he spent more time tasting the pie and coffee and flirting with the new waitress than he did “inspecting”. If I had of been brave I could have shown him some health risks there… big time! (and not ones that I could do much about) Not that he would have cared.
“No one knows what goes on in restaurants.“
Quite true…..although I suspect for the most part, due to the fact they DO have to pass regular health inspections, they are likely more sanitary than the average home kitchen.
The reason we eat out very little has more to do with the price of meals and the general poor quality of service.
On those rare occasions we do eat out, my wife and I generally look at each other after and say “was it REALLY worth what we paid to have a so-so quality meal, served by someone you had to virtually beg to refill your “iced” tea with some lukewarm tea, and then have to sit almost elbow to elbow in a place with the noise level of a high school cafeteria ? “.....and then we eat at home for the next year…..until we convince ourselves we really should repeat the experience just so we know how good we have it at home.
Gloves, yes. Everyone handling food who works for me wears them unless they are cooking on the char grill where they can only safely use tongs to handle food (the temps are so hot, there’s a danger gloves can melt on your hand). Hair nets, not a chance. They are hot, uncomfortable, and look ridiculous. My employees wear hats and long hair is kept up and that works just fine. The one time I’ve had to deal with hair in food in the past year, the two guys in the kitchen had no hair, the server had dark brown hair, and the guest had long blond hair. Guess what color the hair in the food was. Yep, blond and long. Of course, you can’t tell the guest you know its their own hair. They never seem to realize their hair falls out too. Even when you hint at it and say something like, “Hmmmm…...I have no idea where that could have came from. The guys cooking your food are utterly hairless and I don’t have any blond servers working today” they just don’t seem to get it. So, no. Hair in food that was actually accidentally put there by an employee isn’t as common as you might think. Next time you see one (especially if the plates been on your table for a few minutes before you spot it) look at it closely and ask yourself if it could possibly be your own before throwing a fit on the management.
