Palin Doesn’t Understand Theology, Science
GOP vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is on record with her belief that creationism should be taught alongside evolution in the public schools. When a public servant who could be the vice president or perhaps eventually the president of the United States does not understand the difference between theology and science, we have a serious problem.
Her position reflects a widespread misconception regarding the relationship between faith and science.
It also reflects a crying need for both religious and scientific literacy in our communities.
Many clergy professionals feel it is imperative to help people, especially people of faith, understand science. An excellent resource is coming to the Tri-Cities this weekend. Michael Dowd, author of “Thank God for Evolution!” and his wife, science writer and educator, Connie Barlow, will be making presentations that are free and open to the public.
They will present our 13.7 billion year cosmic history as well as evolutionary science in such as way that does not damage the integrity of science or faith. For information, individuals can call 543-7737 or 477-7661 or visit http://www.1stpres-eliz.org or http://www.hvuuc.org.

Re: Palin Doesn’t Understand Theology, Science, this so-called Rev. Dowd and his wife are atheists, and this religious evolution they peddle is just New Age nonsense.
Dowd refers to God (the real one) as “trivial” and “inconsequential.” His New Age version that’s a fusion of science and pantheism (spiritual atheism) he describes as, “One Supreme Reality which transcends yet includes all other realities and makes possible all forms of creativity.” To further quote his bazaar thinking are terms such as “holy trajectory of evolution” and “the nested emergent nature of reality.”
Let’s set the record straight for this so-called Rev. Dowd, a former Evangelical: God indeed created the universe, does broadly control its path, and is still active. Evolution is the method by which God made this world habitable. God transcends Nature, Nature is not God nor is Nature holy. There is right and wrong, and an afterlife. That afterlife does depend on our actions in this life. I’ll let my Jewish and Christian friends argue the details.
There is no scientific proof life began by mere chance. It has never been duplicated in a laboratory and all attempts have failed. It fails the scientific method, which they should teach in schools and is not based on “consensus.“ It’s still wrong to use science to undermine traditional faith and values so as to steer people into atheism and often socialism. That also goes for the ecology movement and its mother earth theology. Evolution as a religion is as absurd as environmentalism as religion.
Science must be kept clear of religion and politics. I call on again to put the Bible or at least intelligent design back in schools as long they misuse science to promote atheism or promote environmental occultism under the guise “saving the planet.” Stay away from this Rev. Dowd.
