Obama supports coal, will support region

» 4 Comments | Post a Comment

Recently I decided to find out for myself what Barack Obama thinks about coal. The economy of our region depends on the coal industry, and I want to make sure the person I vote for to be the next president will look out for Southwest Virginia.
Barack Obama calls for big investments into clean coal technology and supports the development of new coal-fired power plants that would capture carbon dioxide emissions. In the Senate, Barack Obama voted for a law that would give tax credits to industries that use coal so that they can install clean coal technology.
Clean-burning coal will help us get out of the current energy crisis and help our economy. The mining industry provides high paying jobs and Obama’s energy plan will help create more of those jobs. We need a president who will fight for the workers of Southwest Virginia and support the coal industry. Barack Obama is the candidate who will do that.

kona’s right on top of things. “Leave the coal and oil in the ground where it belongs.“ That’s what Obama and McCain think, however they can’t say it when they’re trolling for votes. Read between the lines, kona’s position is Obama’s true position, he won’t tell you, kona just did.

LOL

The facts are:

1) Barack Obama does support “Clean Coal Technology”.

SOURCE
“Create Millions of New Green Jobs

• Ensure 10 percent of Our Electricity Comes from Renewable Sources by 2012, and 25 percent by 2025.
• Deploy the Cheapest, Cleanest, Fastest Energy Source – Energy Efficiency.
• Weatherize One Million Homes Annually.
• Develop and Deploy Clean Coal Technology.
• Prioritize the Construction of the Alaska Natural Gas Pipeline. “

2) There’s no such thing as “Clean Coal”.

This is one of the issues upon which I differ with Obama/Biden, they’ll move us in the right direction, but far too slowly. Coal, like Oil, should remain in the ground where it belongs and where it can’t poison our families.

CCT, according to Obama/Biden, will do for now. The objective is to move away from Oil and Coal by concentrating on renewable energy sources and aiming our energy consumption in that direction.
Coal/Oil companies will have time to begin restructuring their businesses and equipment and begin providing clean energy from renewable sources.
Their employees can be retrained in the new technology and keep their jobs.

Everyone’s happy.

It’s a sound plan, but two fundamental flaws remain. It doesn’t cause the elimination of coal and oil quickly enough, and it leaves at risk the possibility that it could fall into Republican hands in the future and they’ll of course screw it up.

Hopefully America has learned a lesson from the failures of the last eight years. But I doubt it.

James Flanary you can say the same about McCain/Palin. They support the creation of all energy methods.
