Make Clear Decisions To Avoid Regret Later

» 5 Comments | Post a Comment

Lately it seems as if most of the comments about the proposed truck center in Meadowview are from people who favor putting it in. Some even sound as if Meadowview will rise to big city status, create numerous jobs, will not pollute the air any more than school buses or cars picking up our children and last of all, if we dare to differ from their opinion, we have our heads buried in the sand. I have read this last remark on at least two different occasions. Having a different opinion and being wary of what may happen does not constitute a head in the sand. In fact just the opposite is true. I am not against a truck stop, just where they want to put it.

Meadowview as a town will not be that much different except for more congestion at the interstate exchange. Will enough jobs be created to justify the risk, and will already established business suffer? Can there be certainty of no contamination of the nearby stream? Most important, above all suggested benefits and self interest, please do not forget the children! I hope there is no price tag on the health of our children.

We need to make clear, responsible decisions that we will not regret later. As the saying goes, “Be careful what you ask for, you may get it.”

Excuse me, I have to shake more sand out of my ears.

Peterbilt,

I admire your tenacity on this.  I hope it happens as well.  Sounds like there are many workers and truckers that can benefit, as well as the local community.

Don’t try to understand the opposition.  They have an idealistic agenda, that is very well funded by the far left extremists.  Then there are others that see no benefit for them so to heck with all the others.

I see this all the time with coal mining.  They pull out all the emotional things.  The environment. the children, generations to come.  They are really not very smart with current or future economics.  Quite the contrary, they are either ignorant to this or ignore it for their idealistic agenda.

Welcome to the world of the coal industry.  We’ve been debating these types for a long time.  They could care less about you, just forwarding their left wing agenda.

Can someone provide some sort of evidence that this travel center will do any harm?? I suppose it is because there will be no harm. Mr. Buchanan is another one of many who has let us know his fears and I guess that is his right but keep in mind they are just fears with no reality. Glade has a much larger truck stop that is relatively the same distance away from the GMS. I would think we would have heard some complaints from the school or residents that live near by if there was anything significant to worry about. This travel center will be much smaller and will have nothing but positive impact for the Meadowview and Meadowview Elem.

Just a thought. If everyone’s biggest concern here is the children then why hasn’t anybody suggested moving the school. It was built too close to the busiest interstate in the eastern United States. The children are already exposed to all the fears that has been mentioned thus far. Has anybody got land, on Route 11 somewhere, they would sell the county to build a new school.
When my children were small and in a situation where I thought for one second that their health or life might be in danger I removed them from that situation without hesitation. Why hasn’t parents done that? The interstate already posses a danger to their children, what are they waiting for. Apparently the school should never been built in the location where it is now.
I for one agree with what Mr. Buchanan said “We need to make clear, responsible decisions that we will not regret later”. Thats true, now look at what an “unclear, irresponsible decision” has caused, by the county when they decided to build Meadowview Elementary School so close the Interstate I-81.

Roger, I don’t think you have your head in the sand, I think you have been sippin from Cedar Creek, the one that you are worried about the Travel Center polluting. Hate to tell you but the 30 year old septic system that is being used at MES has already done that. It is outdated and way over capacity, designed for 500 people and around 750 are using it.

This is why Loves has offered to fix the mess for them and install sewer not just to MES but all along Glenbrook. This is something that the County and School board can’t afford to do on their own.
