Health Care Reform Needed By All Citizens
I’m hoping for health care reform which will truly be in the public interest and that all of us will have affordable access to the care we need. If that does not happen, it will surely be because there are currently six active health industry lobbyists for each Senate and House member in Washington and so far they have spent $380 million to insure that their interests come first.
We all need to think about this. Does it make sense to continue to funnel our precious health care dollars through a parasitical middleman (big insurance) when all the evidence we need is there to illustrate how wastefully, expensively and often inhumanely they do the job we pay them to do?
When profit is the motive, huge CEO salaries, private jets, advertising, lobbying, and shareholder interests will come before us, the little people, even though we provide the funding.
If our three representatives in Washington really had our interests at heart, they would work relentlessly to remove the for-profit motive from the way we access our doctors and hospitals. Insurance companies can be involved but they need to be non-profit like they are in the health care systems of the other democratic, market-based nations who cover everyone and do it at half our cost.
I think we should demand it and make our voices louder than the lobbying and all that money.

For all of you, like kdr1 and CS-INO, who oppose the health care public option, I now understand your concern for those poor corporate CEO’s who might be affected. This video clip explains their plight and how we might help those unfortunates.

Kade- Care to point out to me where I quoted the words of Christ? I don’t believe I did, but you hurl your inaccurate insult in that context. Also, you feel discriminated against in health care because you’re a woman? It is baloney. Now let’s be proponents of equal premiums for all- regardless of your risks. Now, I’m not an actuary, but can you explain to me why I as a male should be paying premiums for Insurance that has maternity benefits? Why am I paying for abortion benefits? Why am I paying for the risk of all conditions exclusive to women?
Tell us all about your poor self being discriminated against…
You my dear, are carrying the double standard because of your greed for the free lunch and in efforts to ‘promote the well being’ of no one but- yourself.
Sorry, you’re not holding water dear.

The Constitutional phrase “to promote the general welfare” is what gives Congress the power…
Kade,
Baloney….it means “Promote the General Welfare” within the confinement of the rest of the document.
If YOUR liberal interpretation of that phrase WERE the case, and truly what the framers intended, then none of the powers listed in Art 1 Sec 8 would BE listed…..they could have simply stopped right there at the preamble, by saying “Congress can do ANYTHING they want”.....which is exactly what YOU are saying.
By your logic, Congress could abolish the 1st Amendment, for example…..or part of it. “The internet allows the free flow of child porn from other countries, so we must shut it down” (or firewall off certain locations, like China does )....
“Illegal drugs are so bad, we will now allow the police to search you, your home, your papers, your car, whatever, anytime, day or night….the 4th is suspended indefinitely by this Act of Congress”.....
“Congress (alone) has the power to coin money and regulate the value thereof….but we will subcontract that power to a private banking cartel known as the “Federal” (no more “federal” than Federal Express ) Reserve, the general welfare requiring it”....oh, heck, wait a minute…..they already DID that one…excuse me….
Sound crazy ? ALL of that and more would quite easily fit under the “promote the General Welfare” phrase.
I don’t think anyone who understands the Constitution believes it was written with that thought in mind…..especially the sovereign States who formed the Federal Govt simply to facilitate activity between the States and provide for a common defense.
Replblicans have mastered the game and will not give up their control easy. They live to rob companys and drive them into the ground with debt leveraging every business profit stream for bonuses. Why should they consider the employees or heath insurance when they can make billions robbing the system.

To commonwhat?: Your name-calling reads like angry sputtering, grasping at nonsensical straws. You give yourself away when you fling silly insults at one quoting the words of Jesus Christ about how he wants us to treat each other.
I’m sure if you look, you can find a site where “private airplanes” is actually the subject of discussion. You can’t pretend to tell me what I think; you can’t get it right even after I clearly explain it. When faced with facts you go to your fall-back position of name-calling, unrelated to anything I said.
Seriously, dude, no one thinks there’s any “free lunch.“ And when insurance companies can charge far higher premiums for women on individual policies than for men, that’s just plain wrong. Too bad for you that you’re “sick and tired of hearing about discrimination against women” and call it “BS.“ With your misogynistic attitude, I feel sorry for any female friends or family you may have. You must think it’s okay for them to be gouged by greedy corporations. If it were men being unfairly ripped off, you’d no doubt feel quite differently.
I pity you for your anger and hostility. God bless you.
Kade-
You’re just a Dem Party puppet who’s been sucked in to the demonizing of profits. I don’t condone insurance (health) companies for several reasons, but it’s not because of the profits- and I’m sick and tired of hearing about discrimination against women- BS !
You sound like Barney Frank cryin’ about private aircraft for Auto companies then voting for private planes for Congress.
you think health reform will be a free lunch- no such thing as you will soon learn.
You’re full of just as much greed as the health insurance companies.
Commonsense, your user name is a sad misnomer. I’m thinking just fine, thank you, which is why I use actual facts to form my opinions and back them up.
The affinity of some for drawing bizarre and inappropriate conclusions from statements of those with whom they disagree is a never-ending source of amazement. For example, your words “So once we take all the profits out of businesses in America…“ Who said anything about taking “ALL the profits out of (presumably ALL) businesses in America?“ Not me. I spoke of the need to rein in the immoral greed of the insurance industry as a goal of real health care reform. Insurance company profits are estimated at over $800 BILLION annually, while they use any excuse to deny and cut off coverage to millions of American citizens, discriminate against women, raise deductibles to unreachable heights and over-ride the medical treatment doctors prescribe for their patients, all for the good of their bottom line. They jack up premiums every year, making coverage impossible for millions of, not just poor Americans, but the middle-class. Their profits would be ridiculously abundant even if they weren’t making hundreds of billions on the backs of hard-working Americans. That’s the opposite of “promoting the general welfare.“
This is an abominable situation which has been ongoing and worsening since Teddy Roosevelt’s days. I’m not saying what’s going on now will be the REAL reform that we need. I doubt it, with the ratio of lobbyists to Congressmen at 6-to-1, and hundreds of millions being spent by insurance and drug companies against any reform.
For those legislators who oppose true insurance and health care reform (every Republican - who will vote against ANY bill, according to Sen. Grassly who worked on the pathetic Baucus bill! - and some Democrats), the best interests of the public are invisible next to the greedy corporations who bribe/contribute to their coffers.
And one other thing that is very odd about some opponents of making sure all Americans have decent, affordable healthcare… To those who play the “I’ve got mine/to heck with you” card, and who call themselves Christians: When Jesus Christ said, “I am my brother’s keeper,“ he was telling us to do as he did. Jesus also said “Whatever you do for the least of these, you do for me… Whatever you do not do for the least of these, you do not do for me.“ He was telling us how to live, and how to think of and how to treat our fellow man. And he’s watching us.
Kade-
So once we take all the profits out of businesses in America, where do we go from there?
You’re just not thinking. But, let’s give Congress a fleet of private aircraft so they can ‘promote more general welfare’.
Yeah- Right !
