Why not go after BMS?

I find your paper’s Jan. 14 editorial, "Rolling over for Dominion," somewhat troubling and a great deal arrogant. Your assertion that Wise County supervisors do not represent their constituents is just false. Support of the power plant played a major role in the November election results.

The incumbents hear from lots of voters who do not show up at meetings where they emphasize plant support. In any political situation, the fringe elements get the most excited and make the most noise. They show up at meetings to protest and get more coverage by TV and newspapers. The noise-makers do not represent all of the populace.

As for your accusation that supervisors’ votes can be bought with dinner and a room, that is just an abject affront to Wise County voters and a very direct insult to the supervisors. Dominion’s plant will bring much-needed revenue to Wise County. The county needs industry; we have many fewer opportunities than those in the metro area of the Tri-Cities.

Dominion is committed to using the best and most-effective pollution control methods available. If pollution is your overriding concern why not go after Tennessee Eastman or Bristol Motor Speedway. I can’t think of a greater waste of energy and source of unnecessary smog than 42-plus cars doing 500 laps with 160,000 fans, many using RVs, in attendance from all over the country. The reason you don’t is: we like BMS, we are proud of BMS and it produces revenue. Wise County will be proud of the Virginia City Hybrid Energy Center and it will produce jobs and revenue.
