Blame the past clerk
I believe it is not justified to blame Tricia Phipps for the bookkeeping errors reported by her opponent. It’s obvious these errors did occur. However, is it fair to single out Phipps for neglectful bookkeeping over the years? I don’t think so.She admitted making one mistake, which was immediately corrected. That’s an excellent record out of the many cases processed. So why is she being blamed for all reported errors?
In fact, one of the state auditors stated that the former court clerk is to blame, not Phipps [Bristol Herald Courier, Page A-10, Oct. 28].
Phipps has been working in the clerk’s office for 17 years and has only assumed acting clerk duties during the past five months. All of the errors in the audit reports occurred before this time.
Phipps is working hard to correct the mistakes. She has the professionalism and the knowledge to assume the duties of Circuit Court clerk.
