Phipps did her job

Tricia Phipps has been criticized for her failure to attend the League of Women Voters candidates’ forum. I asked her about this, and she was unable to attend because she was doing the work of the court – the work she asks to continue to do.
The grand jury met that day and considered hundreds of criminal indictments. The jurors did not finish their tasks until well after 6 p.m., and when their work was done, the indictments were then read in open court by Phipps.
The jurors were then dismissed, and the commonwealth’s attorney was also free to leave. The clerk’s job, however, was not finished. Those indictments had to be processed – again – and arrest warrants to be issued.
Phipps has managed a campaign while continuing her day-to-day work in the clerk’s office. She has demonstrated her integrity and her dedication to her work and to the needs of the of the people of Washington County. Phipps has never evaded questions of any kind from anyone!
In fact, I would encourage anyone who wants to have their questions answered to talk to her. Unlike Mark Graham, she is easy to find; you can find her at work. This is the professional who deserves our vote on Nov. 6.
