Wings n’ Wheels A Spectacular Event
The Wings n’ Wheels car and air show Saturday at the Virginia Highlands Airport in Abingdon was a spectacular event that raised an estimated $10,000 for area charities.
It derived from the sweat and labor from Abingdon Kiwanis members, who coordinated the event, that welcomed an estimated 6,000 plane and car enthusiasts to the airport, along with the pilots and car enthusiasts and countless volunteers.
A big star was the World War II-era plane, the P-51 Mustang Quicksilver, that roared through the sky and finished the afternoon’s air show.
Car enthusiasts had plenty to love, too – muscle cars like Ford Mustangs, racers like Chevy Corvettes and Chevelles; antique beauties of all stripes from Jaguars to Ford trucks. They gleamed in the afternoon sun, and many were polished to a mirror sheen.
The event raised thousands for area children’s charities by charging only $5 per adult. Kids were free. The memories were priceless.
The next time you see a member of the Abingdon Kiwanis Club, thank them for their efforts. This was a top-notch plane and car show that delighted thousands of people, raised thousands of dollars for charity and showcased the talents of everyone involved.
