Candidates Must Debate

» 7 Comments | Post a Comment

It’s one thing to hide Sarah Palin from the media and, thus, the American people. But John McCain, who is plummenting in the polls, was clearly using the financial meltdown as an excuse to skip the first debate with Barack Obama.

Yes, the financial crisis is staggering and yes, it deserves keen attention from our leaders. President George Bush addressed the nation Wednesday and both candidates have offered their ideas for recovery. Both also went to the White House on Thursday to weigh in on this crisis.

But it is absurd for McCain to use the Wall Street bailout as an excuse to bail out of the first presidential debate. Being president requires the ability to juggle several different balls. You can go to Washington on Thursday and debate Friday night in Oxford, Miss.

Since 1987, the nonpartisan Commission on Presidential Debates has organized these forums and says tonight’s debate remains scheduled. The commission “is moving forward with its plan for the first presidential debate at the University of Mississippi in Oxford, Miss., this Friday, September 26,” the organization said in a statement released Wednesday. “The plans for this forum have been underway for more than a year and a half. The CPD’s mission is to provide a forum in which the American public has an opportunity to hear the leading candidates for the president of the United States debate the critical issues facing the nation. We believe the public will be well served by having all of the debates go forward as scheduled.”

McCain’s candidacy will be irreparably damaged if Obama winds up debating an empty chair.

Obama will burn McCain a good one next time about his votes to block oversight of the Contracotrs in Iraq since those Iraqi Officals testified about American Tax Dollars being funneled to the Terrorist and Insurgent.
I still can’t believe the National Media is not reporting on their testimony before the Senate Committee on Corruption in Iraq.

If anyone smells smoke, that would be McLame’s behind.

How many times did he say “cut spending” then failed to say what he would cut?
We know what he would cut; infrastructure, help for the poor, education, environment, Medicare, veteran’s bennies…..

Obama, though having had a slightly rough start was on top of every question. Gave detailed answers that were specific in nature yet comprehensive. Something John Kerry failed to do even against the dumbest humanoid on earth.

On economy McLame got smoked. But even his supporters knew that would happen. McLame should have walked all over Obama on foreign policy but Obama bested him at every single turn.
Establishing the fact that diplomacy is crucial to national security. McLame’s idea of “they’ll do what we say or else” foreign policy is just Bush foreign policy with a ribbon and bow.

For most of it McCain was too busy being on the defensive to address the questions beyond the slogan stage.
Total meltdown.
McSame offered no depth and no detail. Just rhetoric and canned responses.

It’s not lookin’ good for ya, Repubs.

Can’t wait for Palin vs Biden. Ten bucks says she cries.

Yep, Dad5. McCain hasn’t a leg to stand on (no pun intended) on any issue. He will Fear Monger his way through the debate and ultimately end up looking like the incompetent that he truly is.

I hope Obama brings up the Keating 5 thievery that McLame was a part of.

BTW, X….

Those were 10 Town Hall meetings, not debates. Big difference.

I can’t wait for Obama to call out McCain on using the Social Security trust fund to offset the tax cuts for the wealthy.

That is how Bush pays for his tax cuts. The increase in Social Taxes passed under Regean is what they are using to replace the loose of taxes from the very rich.

McCain wants to cut the Social Security payments retired people are getting now to fund his rax cuts.

Screwin poor people is how Republicans have fun.

X…Bill Clinton is not a liberal. Never has been. He is a Centrist that has never had the guts to take a strong stand. Bill Bush would be a good name for him since his head has always been so far up that disgusting family’s butt he can no longer see.

McCain is scared of debating Barack Obama because McCain has no knowledge of any of the issues we face. He obviously knows nothing about economics. His view on the war is anti-peace and anti-troop.
His view on health care is all for the rich and nothing for the poor.

He doesn’t even know what he’s talking about most of the time.

Just today he agreed to debate Obama because Mississippi was going to hold the debate without him.
McLame’s moment is tonight. He has been losing the election, but tonight is the night he loses it conclusively.
Every time he or Palin open their mouths they lose more undecided voters.

I’ll actually be surprised if he doesn’t “feel ill” and has to cancel. He knows better than anyone that he couldn’t debate a child successfully. Much less an educated man.

This should be fun. I got a big joint, a six pack and a bag of popcorn ready to go.

And once again, liberal folks ought to listen to their patriarch, Bill Clinton.
Bill addressed this as well on GMA Wednesday, and stated that trying to give McCain grief over postponing the debates was ridiculous, and held no water since it was McCain that wanted to have 10 (yes TEN) debates.
The debate is going to happen, and now even more people will watch.
Exactly what McCain wanted… more people to see the differences between him and Obama.
