Jesus Was Dark, Liberal: Why Fear Obama?
By B. I. Conway
Jesus was born Yeshua Ben Yoseph in the town of Bethlehem. Yeshua means salvation or “Lord who is salvation” in Hebrew, while the remainder of his name refers to his lineage from his earthly father.
He was born into a poor Hebrew family from Nazareth, but one that was provided for very well by God through the Wise Men.
Nazareth was near the Gentile cities of Tiberias and Sepphoris on the Sea of Gaililee that lies in southern Israel along the ancient “Via Maris,” which linked Egypt to Mesopotamia. As has been shown by archaeology and linguistic evidence, this region was essentially an eastern extension of Africa due to the interaction of these peoples.
Second, Jesus’ genealogy is stated clearly in the Bible and demonstrates that he was a man of color. First, Matthew 1:2-17 sets out Jesus’ lineage to King David and beyond, which interestingly contains many flawed human beings (sinners like me), but also contains at least four Afro-Asiatic women: Rahab, Tamar, Ruth and Bathsheba. There was also a substantial general Afro-Asiatic influence in Jesus’ DNA as the Hebrew in Jesus genealogy were a subjugated people that spent a hundreds of years in Africa.
Putting aside the sexual exploitation of slaves that we know from the American and Mexican experience, Moses, for example, had a Cushite or Ethiopian wife and Phineas, which in Egyptian means “the Nubian,” was the son of Aaron and the father of a priestly Hebrew line.
Third, Jesus spent his early years in Egypt, where he and his family apparently blended in quite well. Matthew reports the flight of Jesus’ family to Egypt to escape Herod’s infanticide designed to kill Jesus. Thus, Jesus spent his formative years in Africa and was exposed to Egyptian mysticism.
This is confirmed by non-biblical resources, as early Jewish critics of Christianity argued that Jesus learned his magic in Egypt. Matthew also documents that God called his son out of Egypt.
For all these reasons, it is clear that Jesus was a man of color. He was of mixed blood known as Afroasiatic. Like his parents, he was much like the darker Palestinian, Egyptian or Yemenite of today: More chocolate brown than Caucasian in appearance.
What is in a name? Today in America, our names have little meaning other than to identify us. This was and is not so in Middle Eastern cultures.
The name Hussein, which is being used to demagogue Mr. Obama because it was also the shortened name of Saddam Hussein, does not actually have any evil connotation. In Arabic, it means “to be good” or “to be handsome or beautiful.”
So as with most demagoguery, we find that there is no basis in fact for it, nor is there any thing for us Caucasian Americans to fear from the use of this name.
Jesus was crucified because he was a liberal – indeed a radical against the religious and political leaders in Jerusalem. Immediately after his triumphal entry, with the crowd shouting Hosanna (God save us), Jesus proceeded to the temple where he made a whip of cords and drove out the money changers and those selling sacrifices, along with their animals. “You have turned my father’s house into a den of thieves,” Jesus implored.
This was done in full sight of the Roman Garrisons, which were situated on each end of the Temple Square and the Hebrew religious leaders that no doubt had an interest in the commerce.
Jesus, as he had many times before, then called these religious leaders hypocrites to their face because they misused their wealth, power and position to glorify and satisfy themselves rather than to take care of the poor, the widowed and orphaned. Jesus was consistent in his ministry as he often warned of the danger of wealth and possessions and that we are only stewards of God’s blessings.
These are liberal principals, but it does not end there.
Jesus was against the death penalty. He taught that thou shall not kill and that if one is sinless, let him cast the first stone. Jesus changed a murderer named Saul into the most prolific apostle of them all. Peter was the rock upon which God’s church was built, but Paul spread the Gospel further and planted more churches than he. This belief in the goodness and potential of all men is a liberal principal.
Jesus is a peace maker and believed in and taught peace. He said, “Blessed are the peace makers for they shall be called children of God.” He taught that we should love and pray for our enemies and that if anyone should harm us, that we should turn the other cheek.
You see, Jesus knew that love was the most powerful force in the world and that it will conquer in the end. We have seen this proven in our times. Just think about three of the most influential leaders of the last century: Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King and compare their effectiveness to the Arab terrorist.
These were men of color on three separate continents in entirely different cultures who used love and nonviolence in the face of powerful entrenched government leaders and evil and hate to effect remarkable change. They were acting out liberal biblical principals in faith.
I could go on and on from Jesus’ rejection of strict enforcement of religious law to separation of church and state, but I think the point is made. Jesus is a liberal; thank God for his grace.
So, Virginia, please see that you need not fear Mr. Barack Obama because of his color or his liberalism and progressive thinking. He is less liberal than Jesus. Mr. Obama has already told us that he does not want our guns and will enforce the death penalty.
Virginia is the birthplace of freedom through the leadership of our sons, Patrick Henry and Thomas Jefferson. They were liberals, indeed radicals declared by King George as criminals worthy of hanging.
Patrick Henry cried, “Give me liberty or give me death.” Thomas Jefferson wrote our Declaration of Independence, the most liberal document of declared rights of its time.
We must realize Martin Luther King’s dream. We must show the world that the truth and peace still matter to the citizens of these United States and that we have progressed past petty prejudices.
Do not listen to the demagoguery of this vision-filled man. I think it not a coincidence that Mr. Barack Obama, a Christian and a man of mixed black and white blood, has risen up to us as he has with such a strong belief that we can come together.
We must do this. We must realize the dream. We will be better for it.

Mr. Foster, editor of BHC; it is bl. i want to thank you and BHC for publishing my piece. my only purpose was to make the great people of our region think in terms other than sterotypes and platitudes. In my humble opinion, that is not thinking at all. We live in a periolous and difficult time. We need a body politic that is informed in truth and light to make the right decision. It really does matter. i encourage everyone to express themselves to each other and in the public forums such as the one provided so graciously here. tx bl
ConcernedCitizen: You are half right. The BHC is not liberal and is owned by Media General. But Rupert Murdoch has nothing to do with our corporation. To those who have questioned why we published Mr. Conway’s op-ed, the answer is right before you—to spark a debate and to encourage a dialogue. How many articles generate this kind of passion and debate? Mission accomplished. The editor
BRISTOL BOUND: You ought to use your name because you have a wonderful mind. People should get to know you. My point was not to compare Mr. Obama to Jesus. He is a politician and my Yeshua clearly was not. My point was to address the fear and bigotry which i hear in this region on a daily basis. There is a great racial divide of mistrust here. I decided to use the Bible to bridge it to try and get the great folks of this region to vote their interest and not out of fear.
Every word of the piece is true. If you scroll back through the comments, you should find the cited version. If not email me at bl@conwayattorneys.com and i will shoot it to you. Research it yourself in truth and light. tx bl
Mr. Conway, I am pleased to see that you have sparked this debate. I am, however, disapointed that many of the comments have taken such an attack style tone. The truth is there is a wealth of information, beyond the bible, of Christianity as well as Jesus. I don’t agree with some of the accusations stating that you are comparing a mortal to Jesus. I read this as a local cultural examination. I remember my grandfather giving me such valuable advice when I was growing, from fishing to responsibility. I also remember him telling me that if I ever voted for a democrat I would go to Hell. There is an underlying fear in our culture of that which is different. We strive to make the right decisions, but in that persuit, sometimes much is lost in translation. We are a fine people, but unfortunately, we also have a history of letting ourselves be manipulated, whether by republicans or democrats, church or state, or deep pocket energy companies that we allow to rape us of our resources while destroying our land. Political groups play us and others like us like cheap whores, always using our morals and values as tools to take our attention away from the issues of which they are weak on, and rarely coming through as the soldiers they promised to be. There is good news, however, as more and more signs reveal that we are catching on. Just today, I assisted four family members because the wanted to register to vote for the first time. I’ve heard many dividing and racist comments from each of these individuals, but this cycle, they realize they have to cast their voice. They are no longer afraid of Obama because he is different or democrat, but instead have embraced him as the better option in these troubling times that we all face. This debate is much needed, and all of us can bring our oppinions, concerns, and knowledge to the table while maintaining respect for one another. Fact of the matter is, at the end of the day it is not a politician that is here for us; we have only eachother.
It is too funny that people call the BHC a liberal paper. The BHC is owned by media general a Rupert Murdoch owned corporation. That guys is the most repugnant conservative there is.
attn dadw5boys. Slavery started in Virginia in 1620. A DUTCH vessel pulled into Jamestown. Jews did NOT start slavery. Checks your facts dadw5boys. PS>I hope your 5 boys aren’t as misinformed as you are!
Hi Folks: it’s bl again. i am in steamy St. Thomas. i went to the beach today which is rare for me as i would rather be underwater. i was shocked. this might as well be Jamaica. they are selling anything you want on the beach and i mean anything. they are smoking their ganji right on the beach. why is the DEA putting our hill jacks away forever and allowing this in an American territory? do they love these black folk more? do they hate the great folk of our region more? i am just wondering, bl.
Greeting Friends, former Friends and enemies from steamy St. Thomas. the locals call it the Rock. it does not look volcanic to me b/c the hills are covered w/ vegetation and green. it is like the sea flooded the blue ridge, but the tops of the hills remained above it. the sea flashes turquoise and emerald, as i look out on the bay this AM. i feel at home
surronded by these hills.
i am not going diving today b/c i have lingering symptoms from that flu i developed on Mon. i will start tomorrow, but i will snorkel what is alleged to be the best snorkle park in the world. they have sea lions. i can’t wait to wrestle one of them.
i just wanted yall to know that i was thinking of you this glorious AM. i know i have caused some hard feelings and some division in my Church. i knew it would happen, but i felt that the reward outweiged the risk. THE TRUTH WILL SET YOU FREE BROTHERS AND SISTERS. DON’T BE AFRAID and tx bl.
first and formost I can not believe that the times printed this colum. It go’s with the way that even the local media is liberal supporters. I am a chritian and dont believe that this race is based on race.except from what the liberals are playing. I know BL a little and he has represented a family memeber of mine. I do not know him personaly and from what he wrote I don’y want to. Jesus was an orthodox jew.He observed every jewish holliday and was born to an orthodox jewish woman. His Father as All CHRISTIAN’s know is not a man of this world. HE IS GOD. There should never be race injected at all into what Christ Did for us. He himself is no respecter to peoples color or gender. When people start makeing him to fit what they believe then that is when the 2nd comandment is broken. They twist the words of GOD to fit there life style so they can get rid of the guilt they have. Then condem us for pointing it out. One man pointed out that he was sick of us trying to get rid of the cancer that is abortion. And that he doesn’t see any one running out to addopt. You Sir should be educated on this matter. The liderals in government has made it so difficult to adopt that woman have abortions instead. My cousin tried to adopt in the US for years and had so much red tape to go through that she went to china and adopted a child because the waiting list wasn’t years long.
And as far as supporting the death penalty and not abortion. people should study their bibles. The lord himself stated"woe unto those who would hurt these my little ones.It would be better that a millstone be tied around their neck and cast into the deepest part of the sea”. If that isn’t supporting the right to protect children and the death penalty,I don’t no what is?
This election year is not based on race or even political parties .We who see know that this is a war between good and evil.We must stand tall we must fight the good fight we must expose those who are trying to take away our freedoms and ban God from our country. We must be Good watchmen,We must not only pray for those who are against us but we must also fight them when ever and where ever we can. And the way to do that is to get these people out of power.
The lord said “in the last days their will be those who say,Lord Lord did I not heal the sick in your name ,Lord Lord did I not raise the dead in your name and I wil say,Depart from me you workers of iniquity for I never knew you”.
I see that racism still exist around Abingdon. I moved away while there were separate waiting rooms at the bus station. To judge anyone by color of their skin is outrageous.
