The State Corporation Commission gave Appalachian Power Company permission to increase fuel bills in Virginia by more than 12-percent, before hearing the company’s formal request.

The SCC scheduled a public hearing in Richmond for September 23rd, but the increase—from 1.418 cents to 2.255 cents per kilowatt hour—takes effect September 1st.

Appalachian Power attributed the increase to higher coal prices.

The SCC will consider two additional rate requests for Appalachian.

The company has one-million customers in Virginia, West Virginia, and Tennessee.

We all knew this was coming, what I want to know when are we going to wise up in America and start making the people we elect start really looking out for us, not just giving us mouth service.  This is the same ole bs that we went thru in the 70 and 80 and our elected officials promised we break our dependancy on oil….WELL 30 yrs later and here we are again and no one ....NO PARTY tried to do anything to stop this from happening .....the only thing we can do NOW is cut back on what we are using ....we might have to get rid of our toys to pay our added engery cost .cell phones, boats, big ole SUV, playstations, xboxes, and so on and so on ...but maybe one day we might learn the people in public office for the most part don’t have our best interest at heart ...the office is all about them and their power trip.  Maybe it is time we really start voting some of the dead weights we have in office OUT.

I DON’T UNDERSTAND THE MATH. FROM 1.418 TO 2.255 CENTS PER KILOWATT SEEMS MORE LIKE 59 PERCENT INCREASE NOT 12 PERCENT.  AM I RIGHT?

This is ridiclous….raising gas prices…raising food prices..now raising energy prices…you don’t or can’t pay ur bill they turn off your power, no questions asked…familys are struggleing to make it as it is and now they are talking about another rate increase. What more do they think the struggleing families can take? It’s getting to where everyone has to pick and choose weather or not to buy food, or gas to go to work or pay their power bill. Sure there is help out there, but if you make even one cent more than what they think you should they tell you you are making to much money. This is crazy. Look at the economy and the families that are having a hard time making it as it is. What more are we going to have to pay out or how many families will have to start going without power because they can’t afford to pay their bills because of this. This is ridiclous to anyone that is on AEP’s power.
