The average gas price in the Tri-Cities remains the same as yesterday at $3.65 a gallon. But with the threat of higher gas prices by the weekend due to Hurricane Ike, many motorists across the Tri-Cities are filling their tanks.
Your Tri-Cities News Source hit the streets early Friday to check out the prices around the tri.
The highest pump price, $3.69/gallon for regular gas, was spotted just before five o’clock on North Roan Street near the I-26 interchange.
Driving around, we noticed prices were higher near the highway and major land marks.
The BP gas station near East Tennessee State University hovered around the average rate. Just inches from the campus at Tennessee and West Walnut Street regular gas cost $3.65.
The Shell Road Runner on State of Franklin across from ETSU has gas for $3.59.
While another Shell Road Runner on West Market Street has a sticker price of $3.64.
As Hurricane Ike inches toward the gulf coast, economists forecast prices may rise 40 cents to more then a dollar before Saturday morning.

“Hurricane Ike Sends Spikes At Gas Pumps”
Are you really this naive, Nicki?
Did we have hurricanes during the Clinton years? Bush Sr.? Reagan??
They keep raising prices for no legitimate reason so they can gouge us at the pump and promote the false claim that “DRILL, DRILL, DRILL” will change things. It won’t.
Just more oil for these Pigs to gouge us for.
I started calling every state representitive i could since the first storm hit.The Gov.s office could not give me a clear answer and also LT. Gov.Ramsy’s either. All That was told to me was that the Fed.Government set the prices and that the storms was the cause. When I put forth the question of gas that was in the ground and prices raising as much as a $1.10 in a few hours Nothing could be said as to why, by either office.I also contacted rogers petroleum (phone # is 1-800-264-7460) who supply most stations in this area and talked to MR. Yeager who informed me that the supply line from Louisiana was out and now the one from Texas is too.when asked why the prices were going up so much before gas was delivered to the stations He couldn’t or wouldn’t give me an answer. If everyone can recall when katrina hit they said it was because a shortage of oil. Now it is a shortage of gas.If someone can find out how much the distributors have in stock then we will find out who is gouging. Also remember that there has not been any refineries built in this country in many years and many have been closed due to too many regulations placed on us by people who proclaim they are saving the planet. We the people run this country and it is about time we took it back. I say vote them all out and put in the ones who will let us drill and build refineries and put them in places where things like a storm won’t raise the price by 1 or 2 or even 3 dollars a gallon. Oil dropped below one hundred dollars a barrel today before setteling at $100.96 lower than Katrina. So they must find another reason to raise prices. “VOTE”
If you spot what you believe to be price gouging, there are several ways to make reports to the state and national agencies that investigate these claims.
To report possible price gouging to the U.S. Department of Energy, visit this site: http://gaswatch.energy.gov/
In Tennessee, reports can be directed to the Tennessee State Attorney’s Office Consumer Protection Division at 615-741-1671.
In Virginia, call the Virginia Office of Consumer Affairs at 1-800-552-9963 or 804-786-2476.

As for people runnung out to fill up because they were scared,? We went out before the prices went up! Every one here knew that the price of gas would go up simply because we see it every time a race comes into town. I don’t understand why you can go to a shell staion in colonial heights and then go to one on stone drive and the price will be .20 or .30 cents different. We must take back our country before we have no country to take back. Liberals want to make it so hard to get our own energy that we have to buy it from our enemys. Liberals like palosi want to save the world why destroying our country. And republicans have become corrupt. That is what happens when they all stay in office for a life time. Vote them All out and put in new People who dont have the ties to the corrupt politicians. (i.e Sarah Palin). If you don’t vote them out you will have the same. With a country so weakened that it may not be here for our children.
I thought slavery was abolished, but that is exactly what we are
Several stations are already or close to being out of gas. Wow, can you believe we have become a country so dependent. The true test will be…can you conserve over the next week so it will go back down or will you go out and burn it all up on senseless driving and gripe when you need to fill up again in a few days. God forbid walk to the nearest store, ride a bike, carpool with friends and family. It is up to us as the people of this nation to get ourselves out of the glutonous use of gas not the government. We need to take responsiblity for our own selfish consumption and not ask the government to get us out of every mess. To those that scrape by and really do struggle to purchase fuel for work and basic needs I truly feel empathetic and wish our country was in a better state.
I haven’t been out yet, but received a call that some gas stations through out the tricities have signs posted up that they are out of gas while other stations have cars lined up just to get gas. I better get off here and get some gas in my car before it runs out.
Gas prices by our government is affecting our nations ecomony. There the government should take control of this and make sure that the low income families have some kind of subsitaries for this because they can’t afford these prices and not getting back what they have to spend for gas prices to get to and from work.
expect no help from the government. OIl man in charge, remember?
However, they will arrest you if you price gouge on plywood.
40 cents by Saturday Morning…Wow…09-11-08 Hansonville, VA..Valero price $3.59 at 5:30 pm….09-12-08 Same Gas Station $ 3.99 at 6:30 am…I’m sure Ike has not affected them yet…What a rip off. When will our government put a stop to this robbery. Every day we are robbed.
