Two construction workers from our region were struck and killed while working along Interstate 75 north of Knoxville Monday.
Troopers say 18-year old Cheyenne Burke of Bulls Gap and 19-year old Jeffrey Thompson, II of Rogersville were tightening cables on a guard rail when a truck hit them. A third contract worker for Tennessee Department of Transportation was not injured. He was the father of one of the men killed.
The deaths are being investigated as a vehicular homicide, but troopers are looking into the possibility that the driver of the Ford F-350, James Hatfield, of Huntsville, suffered from a medical condition.
