Unicoi Co., Tenn.—The passenger of a tractor trailer that crashed on I-26 remained in serious condition at the Johnson City Medical Center Saturday.

The crash happened around 6:00 p.m. Friday, near exit 51.

The driver, Djaton Bell of Macon Ga., told officers his brakes gave out, and he lost control of the truck on a curve in the highway.

Officers said Tavern Downing, also of Macon, was riding in the cab when the truck overturned.

He was transported by Wings Air Rescue to the JCMC.  Bell was transported by ground.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol restricted traffic in the westbound lanes for hours, as they cleaned up and removed the truck.

It had been hauling cranberry juice.  Officers described the cargo as a total loss.
