Over the last six years, more than 15-hundred people have been hospitalized because of fireworks accidents. According to the National Fire Prevention Association., 75 percent of the accidents occurred in the seven days leading up to the 4th of July.
Barry Brickey with the Kingsport Fire department said it’s important to leave the fireworks up to the professionals.
“In our region we probably have about a dozen or so people that are injured anywhere from the end of June until the first week in July,“ Brickey said.
Experts say sparklers and fire crackers can be dangerous. They urge parents to supervise their children, even with mild fireworks like these.
