Three people are facing charges of “Introduction of Drugs into a Penal Institution”, after a police officer saw someone reaching into an outside vent at the Hawkins County jail. According to a Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office report, Mt. Carmel Officer Stacy Vaughan was leaving the jail when he saw a man reaching into the vent on the east side of the building. When the suspect saw the officer he ran off towards a nearby parking lot. He was seen getting into a green car that was occupied by two women, and a small child. Vaughan detained the suspects, and it was later discovered that a plastic bag with cigarettes, candy and prescription pills were found inside the vent. Authorities say the vent is a known drop off location for contraband.
Danny Bledsoe, Shanna Major and Neochie Delph were all taken into custody and charged.
