KINGSPORT, Tenn. (AP) - Authorities in northeast Tennessee have charged a Telford man with animal cruelty after finding his dog with a harness imbedded in its skin.

Washington County Sheriff Ed Graybeal said county animal control officers cited 24-year-old Randall Treadway.

Authorities said Treadway had kept a harness on the Bassett hound until the dog’s skin had grown around the device, leaving it imbedded in its body.

The dog is being treated at the Johnson City Animal Shelter and is expected to recover. Treadway is scheduled to appear Feb. 25 in Jonesborough Sessions Court on one count of animal cruelty.

The time has come to take a stand against animal cruelty. I have seen Annie’s pictures and I was sickened by the severity of the wounds and knowing that Annie was in pain. It is neglect and abuse plain and simple. Let us give Annie a voice and send a message, loud and clear, animal abuse and neglect will no longer be tolerated. Please sentence Treadwell to the maximum, order he pay any and all medical expenses past and present and never ever be allowed to own an animal, any animal again.

I have seen photos of the horrible injuries this dear hound has suffered.  The harness went all around her…surgeries and painful treatments will eventually restore this poor girl to good health.  The people who did this to her are cruel…uncaring…and deserve to have harnesses embedded into their torsos with NO relief.  In lieu of that, they are criminals and deserve to be imprisoned!!

PEOPLE WHO TIE THEIR DOGS OUTBACK AWAY FROM THE HOUSE OR KENNEL THEM AND SHOW NO ATTENTION WHATSOEVER NEED TO BE PUNISHED.  WHY DO THEY GET THESE ANIMALS IN THE FIRST PLACE.  I OWN A BASSET.  I HAVE OWNED BASSETS FOR MORE THAN 20 YRS.  I KNOW WHAT A GREAT DOG THEY CAN BE.  THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR THIS.  WHAT KIND OF PERSON CAN BE THIS CRUEL.  I ONLY HAVE ONE THING TO SAY, I HOPE JUSTICE IS SERVED HERE.  IT IS TIME PEOPLE REALIZE THIS IS SOMETHING THAT HAS LIFE, JUST LIKE YOU AND I AND DESERVES BETTER TREATMENT.  HE SHOULD SERVE TIME AND NEVER BE ALLOWED TO OWN AN ANIMAL AGAIN IN HIS LIFETIME.  HE SHOULD HOPE THAT I DO NOT SERVE ON THAT JURY.

This kind of neglect is a especially cruel abuse case. A collar that gets imbedded in a dog’s neck has had no human contact; not only is the animal in pain, but he’s been left without any human interaction and care. This human should be imprisoned and jailed, be forced to work to pay for the veterinarian care needed, and never be allowed to have another animal. This is despicable.
