TBI May Soon Charge For Lab Tests

» 0 Comments | Post a Comment

For years the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has not charged local agencies anything for conducting lab tests on evidence. That may soon change.

The TBI is proposing legislation that would allow them to charge $20 for lab tests, like fingerprinting and ballistic tests, and one hundred dollars per D-N-A test requested.

The reason for the proposed change, is because of tightening budgets on the state level projected for next year.

If the TBI has to cut any more from its current budget, it could mean the loss of programs like Amber Alerts, and the Sex Offender registry.
