I would just like to say that as a parent of teenage boys I don’t agree with the ideal of teen drinking. Now I would like to say that as a parent, I would rather have them in my home drinking than out on the roads driving drunk and possibly taking someones life along with their own. Teen drinking is a problem but it is a problem that needs to be addressed by the parents not the law. My kids are 21 and 17. One is registered for the draft and the other is rapidly approaching the legal age for the draft. everyone should think about this, if they are old enough to give their lifes for this great country we live in, they should also be able to make a decision concerning the use of alcohol after the age of 18. I feel that it is ultimately the parents responsibilty to know where their kids are and what they are doing if they are under the age of 18 like my youngest. He knows that he is responsible for his own actions and the consequences of them. This drinking issue needs to be dealt with in the home not in the public eye. Ms. Cook is an excellent teacher for our 5 year old children. She has over the years shown more compassion and understanding for the children who have came thru her classrooms than the magority of her co-workers. Both of my children attended Meadowview Elementary and if they were just entering school again I would request that they be placed in Ms Cooks class just because of the great attitude she displays with the children in her class. As a parent just think about how many times you have went to bed while your teenage kids were still up. Makes you think about the fact that it could be you at anytime who has a police officer bursting thru their door uninvited. How would you feel if you where the one on the recieveing end of all this criticism? If their is any truth to what the kids who where in the home have said Ms Cook is being pursecuted without cause!
Let me start off by saying that this is ridiculous. Mrs. Cook, The Cook’s in general is some of the nicest people I have ever met. It is pathetic that you people are wishing her to loose her job when she did nothing. All these ads in newspapers and on television is down right pathetic, her job has nothing to do with what went on the other night. So there should be a different title instead of Kindergarten Teacher charged with contributing to minors. That is her professional life, which she does a great job at, and all of her kids love her. I attend Patrick Henry, and I know plenty of people who drink. The kids will do it anyways. The alcohol age of 21 needs to go because if I will die for this country at war then I should be able to drink as I please. Most teenagers that drink does it responsibly anyways, we are not stupid because we are young. When I am 20 years and 11 months old I will not change any more maturely and responsibly than when I am 21 and legal. This county police, and school system (mainly school system) is corrupt. The schools code of conduct goes against constitutional rights, and instead if dismissing an employee for something that went on at there home life they should be supporting them. I know plenty of adults in our so called county that has WILD lives, yet they are not on the spot light. Kids will drink, most of you done this when you were our age and now you are being hypocritical about this and acting like a pure angel. I would rather be doing it responsibly than doing it somewhere else and risking my life.
ALSO
To commonsense: You are sitting here wishing someone’s life to be ruined because of a simple incident. Most teenagers in high school drink. That’s the bottom line, and what goes on at her home life, is her business and not yours, or the media. It especially has nothing to do with her professional life considering this happened at night on a Friday.
To milliner: You do not know April and you have no right to say she is trying to play stupid. She was there; she has the knowledge of what went on. All you have is these pathetic little articles where people make themselves feel important, and the news, which is vague and useless in matters like these.
To Candm08: Children are not to be treated like they are in there parents work place. That is the parent’s job, and that is there profession that they chose to be in, not there kids, so the work place responsibilities should have no impact on a home life.
Well, does anyone know?
Has she been suspended? terminated? Nothing?
Interesting to see how the School Board deals with this…
It is scary that someone has posted that it is well known that the kids can go to this house and party without parental supervision even if the parents are home. That kids have been able to leave that house intoxicated…I sure hope that gets investigated. And I don’t see why the mother is being held to a higher standard than the father. They are both parents regardless of her profession. She is no different than he is just because of where she works. But if this was going on and well known it was just a matter of time before they were caught…stupid stupid stupid. If I were the parent of one of those kids I would want a little alone time with both of those parents!!!!
Aprilc03:
Ms Cook IS NOT a great teacher. She should be terminated for permitting this repeated activity.
Thank you Sheriff Fred for responding in you duty.
Parents think because a person is labeled ‘ Teacher ‘ that makes them safe and worthy to be trusted. I trust NO STRANGER with my children. I am their Mother and I am also their teacher. I know where my kids are, I know who my kids friends are. Teachers are people too. They may have that teaching degree and 4 years of school to fall back on but I gave birth to these 2 kids I have and I will remain to be their Mother, Protector, and teacher.
also aprilc03… they did request med flight to fly.. but the weather conditions did not allow as the celling was to low. The town police even brought in a flair unit to scan the location. and the police did not do anything against the law… They were nice if you ask me.
the person whomed called the police was named daniel.. April cook… We all know your trying to back up your mom.. But dont post here and play stupid… How could she not know… let me gusse… You dont know what your brother was doing to? Ask agent7 im sure he knows what really happen…. since he got someone out of trouble…. or did he? whom knows? anyways… If you cant do the time. Dont do the crime.
As parents we are responsible for our children. I can’t believe that these parents did not have any idea of what goes on in their own home. Why is Ms Cook being harassed? She is or was suppose to be a professional educator, yes her husband should be held accountable too but because of her position she should have known better! If she does not know better and they allow things like this to happen in their home then maybe social services should take a look at this! Is this a safe environment for kids? If we cant control the actions of our own children how can we morally educate the future of our community? My parents were in professional careers and they taught me that my actions would not only reflect on me but on them as well. I am the parent of two teenagers and we have discussed this and they agree that they know better than to do something like this. Will they do stupid things, I am sure tehy will they are kids but I hope they know to think before they act. It sounds like that this household does not do a lot of thinking when it comes to some situations. This is a black eye to the community of Meadowview and to the Washington Co School System. Maybe something good will come from this, maybe this will wake parents up to talk to their kids about the consequences of their actions.
