Students Sing The National Anthem

On September 14, 1814 Francis Scott Key wrote a poem called the “The Defence of Fort McHenry.“

Monday, 700 students at Grand View Elementary in Telford, Tennessee, and students across the country, sang the poem set to music.  We now know as “The National Anthem.“

Key was inspired to write the poem while watching the British bombardment of the fort in Baltimore harbor.
As the sun rose on the morning of September 14, 1814 Key was thrilled to see a giant American flag still flying over the fort.
