State and local agencies continue to assist those affected by the weekend storm.  Nearly 30 shelters are open across the state, mostly in the southwestern part of the state, where thousands remain without power.

According to the Virginia Department of Emergency Management, about 500 people are in shelters in the city of Norton and the counties of Buchanan, Dickenson, and Queen, Lee Russell, Scott and Wise.

The Virginia National Guard is moving 150 soldiers into southwestern Virginia to assist with debris removal, water and food distribution, and transportation of emergency workers and citizens to shelters.

The Virginia Department of Emergency Management is also working to deliver 100,000 gallons of water to residents across southwest Virginia.
