‘Security Officer Senior’ Charged With Sexually Assaulting Juvenile
A law enforcement officer employed by a mental health institute in Marion, Va., has been charged with sexually assaulting a juvenile and is on leave without pay, according to the Virginia State Police and a hospital official.
Timothy Lynn Slagle, a “security officer senior” at the Southwestern Virginia Mental Health Institute, was arrested June 12 and released from the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail in Abingdon, Va., on Tuesday. He is charged with rape, forcible sodomy and aggravated sexual battery of a victim between 13 and 14 years old.
The charges stem from the complaints of two juveniles under the age of 15 who accuse Slagle of committing the acts in 2007. A Virginia State Police spokesman said he believed the alleged offenses took place when Slagle was off duty, and knew of no connection with his work at the mental health institute.
“Mr. Slagle has been placed on leave without pay pending the resolution of these charges,” Dr. Cynthia McClaskey, director of the state-run hospital, said in a phone interview Wednesday. “We have very little information about the alleged criminal allegations. We are conducting our own internal review as information becomes available.”
Slagle, of Atkins, Va., belongs to a small cadre of law enforcement-trained officers whose exclusive jurisdiction is the mental health institute. They provide security, serve as bailiffs at commitment hearings on the hospital campus, and serve court orders on hospital staff, McClaskey said.
The Southwestern Virginia Mental Health Institute hired Slagle in September 2004, but McClaskey would not comment on his record, citing privacy laws.
The charges were filed in Smyth County, but will be brought by a special prosecutor from the Wythe County commonwealth’s attorney’s office. Gerald Mabe II, the commonwealth’s attorney, was traveling Wednesday and efforts to reach him were unsuccessful.

Once again people, this has nothing to do with the mans track record for cheating! What you ignorant people don’t understand is that he is being charged with RAPE! Okay, obviously you’re not gonna be quiet about the fact that he’s done something absolutley “HORRIBLE!“ For one thing, this whole article is about what he supposedly did to these two girls, not what he did to you or to anyone else. Secondly, it is not your place at all to bring up past things he may or may not have done! That is not what is up for debate. What he did or didn’t do to you and whoever else should NOT be broadcasted to anyone this way. This is a case of rape and sodomy, NOT a case of theft and drug abuse! And about the whole “I’m family” statement, no, you’re not family! Family wouldn’t stand back and say such horrible things about a person, certianly not if they’re related! lmao. no i have never been arrested by the man. i only know him better than you two do. he is family of mine. and after many years i have come to know the darker side of Tim Slagle. The side that you may have never seen before… i have seen his drug addiction. i have watched him purchase Lortab for his own nasal use. i know that he has STOLEN Lortabs from his own family whom have prescriptions and actually NEED the medication! i also know that he is *to an extent* a good man, only in that he never struck his wife or kids, BUT the reason i believe he is guilty is because i know a girl whom he did bad things to and she didn’t wait 2 years. she spoke up immediately, but nothing was done about it. i have personally caught him peeping through the crack of her bed room door while she was changing and STILL nothing was done about it. i do not know that he did those things to those girls, but i know more about him than you do & i know that he is capable of it. i know that he has no sexual self control. that is why he has cheated so many times. i hold only one grudge against that man… everything else i can forgive. i hate that man because of what he did to that poor innocent little girl many years ago. She and i will both remain anonymous for reasons of privacy, but now maybe you can better understand why i feel so strongly about the situation.
i also know tim very very well. he may cheat on wives and be a loud mouth but aparently so are you taco. im sure youve done things that u regret in your life and so has tim (the cheating i kno he regrets). and concernedin2009 personally i could care less what the “children” think of my comments. if this did happen 2 years ago why in the heck is it just now comming up? i def agree with kadenton he loves his family and would never do this to them. i agree with spook as well if TACO is “truthful” share ur name with us!! tim is a wonderful RESPECTFUL KIND man if you really knew him you would know that. taco prolly just got arrested by him and is holding a HUGE grudge..grow up taco grow up! tims family is 100% behind him and so am i!
Here we go…You, whoever you may be, obviously care nothing about the man! He is and always will be a great person. You may continue to believe whatever you choose to believe, I won’t stop you. But as far as me “opening my mouth” as you put it, I know for a FACT that he is a good person and he DOES have a GREAT family, from ALL sides. He may have done something in his past (obviously to you) but there is absolutley no need for you to bash his family. He has a wonderful wife whom he has never cheated on, four wonderful step-children who he would do postively anything for, not to mention his own children and grandchild. I’ve been around that “godforsaken man” as you called him, many, many times and I can honestly tell you that he has never , not even ONCE tried to hurt me or touch me in ANY way! Okay…first of all it is absolutely ridiculous to entitle this “Security Officer Senior”...what’s his job title have to do with anything????
Secondly, I also know this man personally. I have known him to be an honest, hard working, and devoted public servant for more than twenty years. I also know his family very well, my children have played at their home many times, spent the night in their home many times and Tim has NEVER, NEVER been anything but kind and respecful to them. I do not believe that Tim Slagle is guilty of the crimes he is accused of. I am sorry for these girls, I believe there must have been some kind of trauma in their lives for such a tale to be woven, but I don’t believe their story for a minute. I only hope that the truth will prevail before this man and his family are ruined forever.
Wow! It never ceases to amaze me how quick people are to judge people. You know I always heard that you are innocent until proven guilty, not condemnation before investigation!
