‘Security Officer Senior’ Charged With Sexually Assaulting Juvenile
A law enforcement officer employed by a mental health institute in Marion, Va., has been charged with sexually assaulting a juvenile and is on leave without pay, according to the Virginia State Police and a hospital official.
Timothy Lynn Slagle, a “security officer senior” at the Southwestern Virginia Mental Health Institute, was arrested June 12 and released from the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail in Abingdon, Va., on Tuesday. He is charged with rape, forcible sodomy and aggravated sexual battery of a victim between 13 and 14 years old.
The charges stem from the complaints of two juveniles under the age of 15 who accuse Slagle of committing the acts in 2007. A Virginia State Police spokesman said he believed the alleged offenses took place when Slagle was off duty, and knew of no connection with his work at the mental health institute.
“Mr. Slagle has been placed on leave without pay pending the resolution of these charges,” Dr. Cynthia McClaskey, director of the state-run hospital, said in a phone interview Wednesday. “We have very little information about the alleged criminal allegations. We are conducting our own internal review as information becomes available.”
Slagle, of Atkins, Va., belongs to a small cadre of law enforcement-trained officers whose exclusive jurisdiction is the mental health institute. They provide security, serve as bailiffs at commitment hearings on the hospital campus, and serve court orders on hospital staff, McClaskey said.
The Southwestern Virginia Mental Health Institute hired Slagle in September 2004, but McClaskey would not comment on his record, citing privacy laws.
The charges were filed in Smyth County, but will be brought by a special prosecutor from the Wythe County commonwealth’s attorney’s office. Gerald Mabe II, the commonwealth’s attorney, was traveling Wednesday and efforts to reach him were unsuccessful.

You MIGHT, MAYBE, MAYBE NOT have blood or family ties, but don’t call yourself family because this writer knows better. I know his family and you certainly don’t fit the mold. I know him and his family well and have for much longer than you claim to have known and you are correct that you have a freedom of speech, but you need to speak the truth and throw all of the assumption in the trash can. cornerman, the only reason that i did nothing is because this was long ago and i was but a young teen myself. you call me what you want but i AM a relative of him and the only reason i am protecting my own identity is to keep people from causing trouble for me and/or the rest of my family who knows that he is capable of these things. i am not saying that he did this to those girls and i’m not saying that he didn’t. only he, the two girls, and the good lord know for sure if he did or he didnt. all that i am saying is that i know he is capable & i know that his history shows that may be something that he would do. none of us know for sure as to whether or not he is guilty of these charges, all that we can be certain of, is what we know of the man. and of what i know of his history, i wouldn’t put it past him…

I know Tim also and have for many years. I have a hard time believing that he would do this and I pray that he didn’t. Let’s just remeber that the truth will most always come out, even if it’s not the truth that we want. So let’s not tie the rope to the tree just yet.
yea how do you think the child feels when you people are posting all these things about how bad those girls are and that there nothing but trouble. You don’t know what happened. I want to set the record straight!!! I have known him for 35 years. Does he have some faults, abosolutely. Would he ever…EVER ....rape a young girl…..NO NO NO NO NO. Many here have documented his wandering eye (and other parts) and that is fair game under the circumstances but please be real. He has never had ....nor shown interest in little girls. There are many unscrupulous acts committed by officers everyday and I don’t and never did condone Tim’s marital infidelities. The news is full of such things….a South Carolina Gov comes to mind. That is one thing but raping children is another. The young women who are around him now and speak from personal experience know what they speak of. Tim would never forcibly rape anyone ....much less a child. Tim was unfaithful in the past, has addiction issues but again is not a rapist. Tim’s mother and brothers are wonderful people. I work in the human services field and watch as young girls with other issues make false allegations all the time. I will not demean them here as that is not proper. I will however say that Tim deserves the benefit of the doubt and the legal system. Tim is simply being set up. Jilted ex wives, girlfriends and former arrestees opinions are of no use to me. Taco you have known him for almost 30 yrs and caught him looking in doors. The reason nothing came of the scenario you speak of ......is because there was nothing to it either. Maybe this is not the first time BS claims were made against Tim huh?? If your such a beacon for truth and justice you should never have allowed these terrible atrocities to occur and nothing to come of it. Why didn’t you come to the “poor little girls” aid. BS that’s why. Supposedly looking through a door is a far cry from forcible sodomy of a little girl. Tim has never been nor ever claimed to be a saint. He also has never been a rapist. Working swing shifts for 18 years dealing with the dregs of society, murder, suicide, abuse etc drives many officers to addiction or other escapes. Not excusing his infidelity in any way but pointing out the fact that addiction is very commmon. To publicly (as “family”) hide behind a screename now and crucify the man while you supposedly sat idly by while atrocities were happening to a young girl in your family ....hardly believable. Is anyone here even concerned about the child or is this all about the officer and his past???? Who cares what he did on the PAST ~~ Look at what he has done to this CHILD!! Why would it matter how many WOMAN he slept with, they were old enough to know better but this child probably didn’t have a choice weather to have sex with this pervert or not like those grown woman would have had.
