Citizens of Elizabethton will see a slight increase at the register when shopping inside city limits.  A referendum passed by 54-percent.
Currently the tax rate is 9.25-percent, it will now be 9.75-percent.  The Director of Elizabethton City schools says this money is desperately needed, over long term the city could be looking at more then 7-million dollars in repairs to the roofs, plumbing, and infrastructure of the school facilities.
The tax increase will last for 10 years, the city will then decide whether to extend it.  The city school system expects to collect more then a million dollars in the first year of the tax increase.  All the money will go directly to school repairs.
