The Johnson City Police Department arrested a Bristol, Virginia woman, after they say she worked as a caregviver for a local home care business and stole thousands of dollars from an elderly client.

Police arrested Ashley N. Brooks, 23, after they say an investigation revealed that she wrote four separate checks out of a 73-year-old woman’s checking account. The victim lost $80,600 as a result.

As a caregiver, Brooks worked at the woman’s home, which police say gave her access to the victim’s checkbook.

Police charged Brooks with one count of theft over $60,000, two counts of theft over $1,000 and one count of theft under $500.

Brooks is being held at the Washington County, Tennessee Detention Center on a $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court tomorrow morning.

I am so sick of this racism CRAP.  It has nothing to do with racism.  So don’t use that for your justification of everybody coming down on her.  She is a criminal who stole tens of thousands of dollars from a helpless elderly person!  So take your racism crap and stick it where the sun doesn’t shine.

I think this female deserves to be disrespected. I know you know her and see her differently but she stole tens of thousands of dollars from a helpless elderly person. And we are supposed to show this person respect? I think not. But how in the world did racism get into this? Nothing was ever said about the race of this person, unless there is something I have missed I haven’t read that. I don’t care if she is purple what she did is completely disgusting and she deserves all the disrespect she receives.

Everybody has something to say about what she did. Yes, it was wrong and yes, she should be punished. But as to disrespect her for her crime is a crime. How can you judge her for what she has done, and knowing you have family members that have done worse. Yes, I do know this young lady and I believe justice will prevail. But, I can’t pass Judgement. Only God can. Look at History people have stolen blacks from Africa, did they get punished? NO. People have stole job positions, did they get punished? NO. But to have stolen money from someone is punishable, and the courts will decide her fate. Because she is of the black race doesn’t give you the right to judge. Look at the white race killing kids and blowing up co-workers. Did all of them get what they deserved? NO. Justice will be served and RACISM NEEDS TO STOP. JUDGE NOT LEST YE BE JUDGED. READ THE BIBLE.

I know Ashley.. and this is not the person that I grew up with. I am so disappointed in what she did. I think that the smile she is portrayin is a cover up and that she is masking her embarrassment and humiliation. I too believe that she should be punished but not as far as “knocking” her teeth down her throat, that is a lil harsh and ppl have done far worse things in life.I feel bad for the elderly lady and I hope that she is able to collect the entire amount that was stolen from her. As far as the comment that one lady said about “whooping” her daughter cause she stole something, the truth of the matter is,she still was a thief, no matter how big or how small something was still taken. I dont think that her mom is proud of what she did but I know that her mom is a good mom and she raised Ashley the best of her ability. Ppl make mistakes, she has to deal with what she did, pick herself up, apologize and move on in life..

Looks like another one of many who take care of the elderly, then take advantage.  What an outrage… they either steal from them while they’re in their home or come back later with some of their ‘no good’ friends and rob them!!!  The court system should show no mercy on a person who would take advantage of an elderly person; there is no differnce in that and taking advantage of a child who is dependent upon you for care.

I bet if the paper did a study on how many people have been charged with this very thing in the last year, you would be amazed….  I’d like to see all of these people’s faces in the newspaper.  Wonder if they all are smiling like this thief was?  If that ever happens to my parent, the person will be in bad shape before the police ever get around to arresting them….

All I can think about is this could have been my grandmother…What about the agency she works for? Are they not held liable? Did they not do a background check on her? Does she have prior convictions? Is this federal because of the amounts? This “girl” is beyond scum!

Just look at that beautiful smile. No regrets.. I hope that the judge gets a good look at the mugshot prior to allowing her to be bonded out. Have a relative that has been through heck twice due to drugs but she Never stole from anyone. Why would the bank allow a $60,000 withdrawl? This goes to show that you can never be to cautious with the elderly. I wondering how she would feel if I stole from her parents or grandparents..

i bet those are tax payers teeth anyway.we all should go and pull every last one of them, then let her smile for stealing from the elderly. plus cut off her sticky fingers, that we probably pay for her nails also.

Totally agree with you….I’d love to see her with a few teeth missing.
