Police Arrest Caregiver On Charges Of Theft From Elderly Woman

The Johnson City Police Department arrested a Bristol, Virginia woman, after they say she worked as a caregviver for a local home care business and stole thousands of dollars from an elderly client.
Police arrested Ashley N. Brooks, 23, after they say an investigation revealed that she wrote four separate checks out of a 73-year-old woman’s checking account. The victim lost $80,600 as a result.
As a caregiver, Brooks worked at the woman’s home, which police say gave her access to the victim’s checkbook.
Police charged Brooks with one count of theft over $60,000, two counts of theft over $1,000 and one count of theft under $500.
Brooks is being held at the Washington County, Tennessee Detention Center on a $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court tomorrow morning.

To my2cents. I do not participate in Black History Month, I’m not a fan of B.E.T (B.E.T is own by Viacom, not a black person), NAACP is not for me, and as for a college fund, I don’t need it. If there was a W.E.T, yes I would watch it just like I watch VH-1. As for all of these Chambers of Commerce We only need one. I know that all race should unite as one, but I can’t change that, that was before I was born. And yes, I do feel that Ashley deserves punishment and I feel for the old lady. Yes, it is wrong to steal and yes all involved should be punished. I did not support the Million Man March nor have I supported any race organization and never will. I support God and his people, not race. And I do not watch any type of beauty pageants. If you must know my race is of bi-racial. And in the so-call ghetto where I’ve live it was mostly whites not blacks. Thank you for you comment My2cents. But stealing is wrong and punishable, and I’m sure justice will prevail. Judgement day is near.
Ok-I think that everyone is missing the point here!!!!Ashley stole $80,000-that is accounted for-that is not chump change!!Even though her banking account is frozen-she spent the money, there definitely wasn’t $80,000there!!There are alot of details not out about this, so why defend her? She is scum!!! She deceitfully stole from someone who trusted her completely and shows no remorse for what she did!!!She deserves everything she gets!!! As far as her family goes, I hope they are good people because someone will have to care for her daughter-whom she evidently didn’t care about or she would not have done this!!DO NOT MAKE ASHLEY OUT AS THE VICTIM-SHE IS THE CRIMINAL!!!This elderly lady has now lost a big part of her retirement which she did work hard for and now has to worry about paying for her living because of a greedy person!!I also believe that SAINT ASHLEY could have a previous record. True only God can judge us but we have laws that we ALL must abide by as a society. I don’t care if you are white, black, red, green or yellow. She is smiling in this above picture and that is extremely disrespectful and in poor taste. This has nothing to do with color, I’m African American and sicken by the whole thing so there.
Yes, Ashley would hurt someone…and she did. Point Blank! And the color of her skin has absolutely nothing to do with anything here. You are the only person that seems to have a problem with skin color, therefore; it is you that are the problem.
To clarify what I’m saying to those who didn’t read between the lines. Yes, I do know my cousin and yes I do believe the courts will give her what she deserves. And to the where abouts of the money, only Ashley can answer that question. And as to racism, it’s that no matter what crime has been committed race does and has played a key role. The money is of importance, but where is it seems to be the question? I’m sure and I’m hoping that the money is found and returned to the owner. No matter who is helping Ashley hide it. I just hope they turn it over to the police. But, again. Color of skin does have a role in passing judgement. And if you feel that I’m speaking racism than you’re not reading the whole statement. It mention slavery of blacks, and stealing of job positions. A crime is a crime no matter what color you are, but blacks do seem to get the stiffer penalty. And if you know Ashley, you would know that she would never hurt any body, but I feel she was put up to this and all parties need to be punished. I also said it is not up to use to judge. ONLY GOD CAN JUDGE US. The bible speaks of forgiveness and I do pray that the elderly lady gets her money back and that Ashley is forgiven by her, and yet she stills need to pull whatever the courts give her. She needs to do her time and ask for REPENTANCE. IF YOU BELIEVE IN GOD, BELIEVE THAT HE WILL HANDLE THIS. THE TRUE JUDGEMENT WILL BE GOD’S JUDGEMENT.
I know “Ash” very well!!!! Who said that she spent all the money? To my knowledge they have frozen her bank account, so figuring out what she did with the money is something you’ll have to wait and see what comes out in court… but if your thinkin she gave some to her close friends (or even to me) your kidding yourself. I am fully aware of what planet I am on..and if you read what I wrote you wouldve seen that I said I felt sorry for what happened and that I hope that the lady is able to collect the ENTIRE AMOUNT that was stolen from her… I do think that Ashley needs to apologize, deal w/ what she is facing and move on with her life..THIS IS NOT A RACE ISSUE, PPL OF ALL RACES COMMIT CRIMES.. I DONT KNOW HOW IT GOT INVOLVED BUT IT WAS AND SHOULD NEVER BE AN ISSUE.. I agree there was a horrible crime committed, but whats done is done, Ash cant take it back….
